Abstract: A system and method for facilitating communication with segment routing in a cable modem network environment may be provided. A pseudowire (PW) control packet including segment routing information including a PW segment identifier (SID) for establishing a data session between the RPD and a network element over a packet switched network is received at a remote physical device (RPD). The PW SID may be indicative of a segment in the packet switched network to be used for communicating PW data packets of the data session. The PW control packet and the PW data packets being are emulations of a point-to-point connection between the RPD and the network element. A mapping between the PW SID and the data session is written into a segment table of the RPD.

Aspects of the embodiments are directed to receiving a first notification indicating a problem in a network; triggering a data-collection feature on one or more nodes in the network for subsequent packets that traverse the one or more nodes; evaluating a subsequent packet that includes data augmented by the data collection feature; and determining the problem in the network based on the data augmented to the subsequent packet.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a service function classifier device determines a classification of a packet using one or more packet classification rules. The device selects a service function path based on the classification of the packet. The device determines one or more traffic flow characteristics based on the classification of the packet. The device generates a service function chaining (SFC) header that identifies the selected service function path and the determined one or more traffic flow characteristics. The SFC header is configured to cause a device along the service function path to forward the encapsulated packet based on the identified service function path and the determined one or more traffic flow characteristics. The device sends the packet along the selected service function path as an encapsulated packet that includes the generated SFC header.

Abstract: In a first enclave of a label switching network (LSN), a protocol data unit (PDU) of the LSN is formatted to include a network service field specifying a service to be applied to the PDU. The service field can be positioned between PDU data link layer and network layer fields. The PDU specifies PDU routing/forwarding information for a path in the LSN ending in an LSN second enclave, and routing/forwarding for a destination between path segments in a non-LSN. The PDU is communicated from the first enclave, via the non-LSN, to the second enclave in accordance with the routing/forwarding information for the destination between path segments in the non-LSN. In the second enclave, each network service specified for the PDU is determined and then applied to the PDU. The second enclave transmits the network serviced PDU from the second enclave in accordance with the routing/forwarding information of the PDU in the label switching network.

Abstract: An ingress node inserts into a header of a packet service level agreement information and forwards the packet. At an egress node of the network, the packet is received and the service level agreement information is obtained from the header of the packet. Abstract: In one embodiment, a particular service chain data packet is received by a particular service node, with the service chain data packet including a header identifying service chain information. The particular service node applies a service to the particular service chain data packet. The particular service node adds service-layer operations data to the particular service chain data packet, with the service-layer operations data related to the current service function or the particular service node. Subsequently, the particular service node sends the particular service chain data packet with the service-layer operations data from the particular service node. In one embodiment, networking operations data is also added to the particular service chain data packet. In one embodiment, an egress service node removes the service-layer (and possibly networking) operations data and forwards to another system, possibly after processing this operations data.

Abstract: A method, network device, and computer readable medium are disclosed. In one embodiment of the method, a data packet is received at a node within a first segment routing enabled access network. The first access network is connected, via a first area edge node, to a first area of a subdivided segment routing enabled network, and a specified destination for the data packet is reachable via a second segment routing enabled access network connected to the subdivided network. The method embodiment further includes receiving from a centralized controller a remote segment identifier stack, where the remote segment identifier stack encodes a path extending from the first area edge node to the second access network. The embodiment of the method continues with encapsulating the data packet with a full segment identifier stack comprising the remote segment identifier stack, and forwarding the encapsulated data packet toward the first area edge node.
