摘要: An illumination system may include an illumination source, a line-projection system to simultaneously illuminate a pupil plane with a static distribution of a plurality of one-dimensional (1D) coherent beams. Each of the 1D coherent beams of the plurality of 1D coherent beams may extend lengthwise along a coherent direction between boundaries of the pupil plane, have a width along an incoherent direction perpendicular to the coherent direction, and are distributed in a parallel distribution along the incoherent direction. Each of the 1D coherent beams of the plurality of 1D coherent beams is also spatially coherent along the coherent direction and spatially incoherent along the incoherent direction. The system may further include an objective lens to form a light sheet in an imaging plane based on an incoherent superposition of the plurality of 1D coherent beams.

摘要: A method and apparatus is provided to reconstruct a computed tomography image using iterative reconstruction (IR) that is accelerated using various combinations of ordered subsets, conjugate gradient, preconditioning, resetting/restarting, and/or gradient approximation techniques. For example, when restarting criteria are satisfied the IR algorithm can be reset by setting conjugate-gradient parameters to initial values and/or by changing the number of ordered subsets. The IR algorithm can be accelerated by approximately calculating the gradients, by using a diagonal or Fourier preconditioner, and by selectively updating the preconditioner based on the regularization function. The update direction and step size can be calculated using the preconditioner and a surrogate function, which is not necessarily separable.

摘要: A real-time traffic safety visualization and management system using traffic data, social media data, weather data, and other similar data enable proactive decisions for reducing the number of traffic incidents or mitigating their severity. The system utilizes predictive algorithms in a hybrid framework to diagnose real-time traffic safety conditions. Meanwhile, Pro-active Traffic Management (PATM) Strategies are provided by the system for the predicted high-risk locations. Moreover, through the visualization and management system, various countermeasures are considered and tested for decision makers, such that one or more of the most effective countermeasures are recommended within a given area to improve traffic safety thereof.

摘要: A smart, human-centered technique that uses artificial intelligence and mixed reality to accelerate essential tasks of the inspectors such as defect measurement, condition assessment and data processing. For example, a bridge inspector can analyze some remote cracks located on a concrete pier, estimate their dimensional properties and perform condition assessment in real-time. The inspector can intervene in any step of the analysis/assessment and correct the operations of the artificial intelligence. Thereby, the inspector and the artificial intelligence will collaborate/communicate for improved visual inspection. This collective intelligence framework can be integrated in a mixed reality supported see-through headset or a hand-held device with the availability of sufficient hardware and sensors. Consequently, the methods reduce the inspection time and associated labor costs while ensuring reliable and objective infrastructure evaluation. Such methods offer contributions to infrastructure inspection, maintenance, management practice, and safety for the inspection personnel.

摘要: Disclosed herein are cell culture analog devices, systems and methods for applying stimuli to components containing different cell types and recording the cell responses before, during, and after a stimulus (for example, a drug, metabolite, toxin, or electrical stimulus) is introduced. Responses can be stored to a database and compared to previous results. By analyzing how each cell type responds to various stimulation parameters, for example, by using multivariate analyses, cell signaling pathway information can be determined or new pathways can be discovered. In some implementations, an individual component interfaces with a specific cell type. This facilitates readout of the cell response to the stimulation. Various components can also interface with each other, such that the behavior of one cell type can affect a cell type in another component. Once assembled, the system is plugged into readout electronics and a programmable electrical stimulator.

摘要: An improved method of performing object segmentation and classification that reduces the memory required to perform these tasks, while increasing predictive accuracy. The improved method utilizes a capsule network with dynamic routing. Capsule networks allow for the preservation of information about the input by replacing max-pooling layers with convolutional strides and dynamic routing, allowing for the reconstruction of an input image from output capsule vectors. The present invention expands the use of capsule networks to the task of object segmentation and medical image-based cancer diagnosis for the first time in the literature; extends the idea of convolutional capsules with locally-connected routing and propose the concept of deconvolutional capsules; extends the masked reconstruction to reconstruct the positive input class; and proposes a capsule-based pooling operation for diagnosis. The convolutional-deconvolutional capsule network shows strong results for the tasks of object segmentation and classification with substantial decrease in parameter space.
