摘要: An air bearing surface for use on a magnetic read/write head. The air bearing surface provides a stable flight profile while exhibiting exception load/unload characteristics through the use of a plurality of pads providing high pressure areas as well as a central cavity providing a sub-ambient pressure to counter the high pressure areas. The channel is set a predetermined distance from the leading edge of the air bearing, the predetermined distance being greater than with prior art designs. A channel extends from the leading edge to the cavity to allow airflow into the cavity. The channel and the set back of the cavity both act in conjunction to facilitate unloading of the air bearing by preventing excessive sub ambient pressures.

摘要: There is disclosed a magnetic head device in which a head IC chip may be located relatively closer to a magnetic head and a thermal effect may be controlled to be within a range of acceptable degree. Said magnetic head device comprises a head slider having a magnetic head, a suspension member which is made of thin resilient material and supports the head slider at one end thereof, and a head IC chip, wherein the suspension member is attached to other member at the other end thereof. The IC chip is mounted on the suspension member. When the IC chip is selected to have appropriate disc side area and is mounted on the suspension member, the temperature of the IC chip itself may be maintained within a range of acceptable degree and that of the magnetic head may be also kept to be lower. When the electric power consumption of the IC chip is equal to or less than 410 mW, the disc side area thereof should be equal to or more than 1.1 mm2. The IC chip is mounted on a surface of the suspension member at a side facing to the disc at a position where a relative linear velocity equal to or more than 25 m/sec is generated with respect to said disc.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a slider, a head, a head device and a read/write apparatus that are extremely effective for achieving high density writing and an increase in the storage capacity. The slider comprises a front flat surface, a first positive pressure generating portion, a second positive pressure generating portion and a first negative pressure generating portion. The front flat surface, which is provided starting at a leading edge, ends at an intermediate point along a lengthwise direction. The first and second positive pressure generating portions have flat surfaces which are essentially of equal heights and are positioned separated from each other over a distance at two sides in a widthwise direction running perpendicular to a lengthwise direction, with edges at one end located toward the leading edge forming step faces rising up from the front flat surface in a step. The first negative pressure generating portion is provided behind the front flat surface relative to the airflow direction and has a base surface with a height which is lower than the height of the front flat surface.

摘要: A method for changing the curvature of an air bearing surface (ABS) of a slider after the slider is attached to a suspension. The method includes the step of scribing a surface of the suspension to alter the stress on the suspension to change the curvature of the suspension and thus cause a change in the curvature of the slider ABS. The method includes producing scribe lines by ablation and melting/resolidification of the suspension to alter the stress on the suspension, thereby also causing a change of curvature in the ABS. Scribing is performed within a scribe region, which is defined according to a slider footprint. The curvature of a suspension can be altered by scribing before the slider is attached to it thus adjusting the curvature of the suspension to reduce any undesirable slider curvature changes caused by the attachment process. The present invention also includes suspensions processed according to the method.

摘要: A transducer suspension system is comprised of a load beam and a flexure. The flexure has a platform for receiving a transducer head. The platform has a forward portion which has a forward facing tab which engages an aperture in the load beam above. The rear portion of the platform has a pair of forward facing rear tabs which engage an aperture in the load beam above. The tabs limit the motion of the flexure during violent shocks, thereby preventing damage to the flexure.

摘要: A disk drive suspension reduces or blocks capacitive coupling between a flexible circuit electrical connector and the steel load beam by interposing a second dielectric layer not part of the flexible circuit between the flexible circuit and the load beam. The change in capacitive coupling is realized without changing the mechanical properties of the flexible circuit, which can still be used to form the suspension flexure.

摘要: A glide head using a slider with an outside active rail is described. In one embodiment, the trailing end of the outside rail extends beyond the trailing end of the inside rail. Thus, during use, the trailing end of the outside rail is closer to the surface of the magnetic disk because of the slope of the glide head's flight. Accordingly, the outside rail is the active rail. The inside rail may be wider than the outside rail to compensate for additional lift created by the greater length of the outside rail. In an alternative embodiment, the trailing end of the outside rail extends beyond the trailing end of the inside rail and there are notches located in the side edges of the rails. The notches do not extend to the forward tapered ends of the rails nor to the trailing ends of the rails. The notches provide additional stability during the slider's flight and decrease the air bearing area of the rails as needed for fly height requirements. In addition, the testing time is minimized by the wide trailing ends of the rails.

摘要: The present invention makes it possible to manufacture a slider having two surfaces at different depths relative to a flying surface. First etching is performed to form a second surface corresponding to a step portion using a photoresist mask; thereafter, another photoresist mask is formed on a region to become a second surface of the slider bar without removing the former photoresist mask; and second etching is performed using those photoresist masks to form a third surface corresponding to a negative pressure generating portion.
