A process for the preparation of passivated toners with a substantially stable positive or negative triboelectric value of from about 10 to about 30 microscoulombs per gram which comprises admixing toner resin particles, colored pigment particles, and a charge enhancing additive; and subsequently adding thereto surface additives wherein the charge additive functions primarily as a passivating component.

There are disclosed substituted thiazole dye compounds represented by the following Formula (I):Formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a group capable of substitution onto a benzene ring, n is an integer of 1 to 4, x represents a substitutent capable of forming a hydrogen bond with the hydrogen of --CONH--, R.sub.2 represents an electron-attractive substituent, R.sub.3 represents a group capable of substitution onto a thiazole ring, and R.sub.4 represents an aromatic group or an unsaturated heterocyclic group that bonds to the nitrogen atom at a carbon atom having an unsaturated linkage.The dye compounds provide a cyan color which is good in hues and possesses fastness to light and heat.

A color toner composition for developing electrostatic images comprises a coloring agent and a binder resin, wherein the binder resin is a vinyl-modified polyester resin obtained by graft polymerizing(a) a vinyl monomer containing an aromatic vinyl monomer and an amino group-containing vinyl monomer to(b) an unsaturated polyester comprising at least aliphatic unsaturated dibasic acid and polyhydric alcohol having a weight average molecular weight of about 5,000 to 15,000, and the component (b) constitutes at least 50% by weight of the vinyl-modified polyester resin and the amino group-containing vinyl monomer constitutes 2 to 20% by weight of the vinyl-modified polyester resin.

The toner for developing an electrostatic charge image of the present invention contains a toner base particle comprising a binder resin and at least two kinds of organic pigments, and alumina as an external additive. The at least two kinds of organic pigments comprises: a pigment P1 having an absorption maximum wavelength λmax (nm) of greater than 400 nm and less than 600 nm when dispersed in methyl ethyl ketone; and a pigment P2 having an absorption maximum wavelength λ max (nm) of 600 nm or more and 700 nm or less when dispersed in methyl ethyl ketone.

A toner, containing: a binder resin; and kaolinite, wherein the toner has a molecular weight distribution having a main peak in a range of 1,000 to 10,000, and a half value width of the main peak is 8,000 to 30,000, where the molecular weight distribution is obtained by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) of THF soluble matter of the toner, and wherein the toner contains the kaolinite in an amount of 5% by mass to 35% by mass.

A toner including a resin; and a colorant wax comprising a plurality of colorant wax particles comprising a colorant core surrounded by a wax shell, wherein the colorant wax particles exhibit a particle size distribution of from about 150 nanometers to less than about 300 nanometers; and wherein the colorant wax is prepared by (a) melting and mixing a dry colorant with at least one wax to form a colorant concentrate, wherein the colorant concentrate contains at least 25 percent by weight of colorant; (b) milling the colorant concentrate of step (a) to form a milled colorant concentrate; (c) combining the milled colorant concentrate of (b) with water and dispersing to form the plurality of colorant wax particles; wherein the melting and mixing of step (a) and the milling of step (b) is done in an immersion media mill; and wherein the combining of step (c) is done using a piston homogenizer.
