The method of making a granulate composition for decolorizing or bleaching hair consists of preparing a powdery mixture consisting of from 30 to 65% by weight of one or more inorganic persulfates, from 1 to 20% by weight of a binding agent selected from the group consisting of polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethylene glycols having molecular weights of 200 to 10,000; of 15 to 45% by weight of at least one salt selected from the group consisting of alkali metal carbonates, alkaline earth metal carbonates, alkali metal hydrogen carbonates, alkali metal silicates and from 0.1 to 3 percent by weight of a chelating agent, and one or more auxiliary and additive substance selected from the group consisting of perfume oils, hair dyes, amphoteric, anionic, cationic and nonionic surface-active substances and water-soluble thickeners; after making this powdery mixture, spraying ethanol and/or isopropanol in a weight ratio from 13:1 to 4:1 (powdery mixture to alcohol) into the powdery mixture to form a moistened mixture; granulating the moistened mixture formed during the spraying in a granulating apparatus to form a moist granulate; and after the granulating, drying the moist granulate to remove the alcohol or alcohols and to form the granulate composition.

Functional agglomerated speckles, for incorporation in dentifrices, include agglomerates of a water insoluble powdered functional material and a mixture of a water insoluble, ethanol soluble ethyl cellulose binder and a suitable water soluble binder, such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone. Such speckles, while more "soluble" or disintegrable in a flavored dentifrice than those based on ethyl cellulose binders without PVP, still can satisfactorily maintain their integrity and identity during processing of the dentifrice after addition of the speckles to the main dentifrice body, but on storage, after packaging of the dentifrice in dispensing tubes, they will soften sufficiently so as then to be essentially impalpable to one utilizing the dentifrice in brushing his teeth. Despite such softening the speckles continue to maintain their identity as separate small bodies in the dentifrice. The invented speckles are especially useful in translucent or transparent gel dentifrices, which contain components, such as flavoring and surface active agents, which may controllably soften the speckles on storage. Also described in the specification are dentifrices incorporating the present speckles, methods for manufacturing the speckles and such dentifrices, and such dentifrices packaged in end use dispensing containers.

Readily dispersible and dissoluble forms of alcohol-insoluble hydrocolloids such as sodium alginate and other water-soluble gums may be prepared by incorporating the comminuted hydrocolloid in agglomerated granules by means of a carbohydrate binder that is soluble in both alcohol and water, e.g., sucrose, dextrose or corn syrup solids. An aqueous alcoholic medium is used to dissolve the binder so that it coats the particles of hydrocolloid without hydrating them. When the wetted mixture is stirred or tumbled in a suitable mixer, the particles stick together and form agglomerated granules. Other agents such as coloring agents, flavoring agents, minerals and salts may be incorporated in the granules.

The present invention relates to [1] a detergent composition including pigment granules containing (A) from 10 to 95% by mass of a water-insoluble pigment, and (B) at least two compounds selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohol, a polyvinyl alcohol derivative, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and a polyvinyl pyrrolidone derivative; and [2] a process for producing the detergent composition according to the above [1], including the steps of mixing and granulating a powder containing the water-insoluble pigment (A) and a solution of the component (B) to obtain a granulated product; drying the resulting granulated product to obtain the pigment granules; and mixing the pigment granules with a detergent. The detergent composition is capable of not only can satisfying both of rich foaming and good preparation stability, but also exhibiting sufficient coloration of foams and readily controlling a coloring time of the foams without damage to motivation of the user to use the detergent, and therefore can provide a comfortable feeling of use and a suitable configuration of use according to the applications by the user.
