Abstract:
A PROSTHESIS USED AS AN ARTIFICIAL JOINT IN THE HUMAN BONE STRUCTURE COMPRISES A BEARING MEMBER ADAPTED TO BE HELD IN A FIXED POSITION BY A CUP-SHAPED SEATING MEMBER WHICH IS ANCHORED TO THE BONE STRUCTURE. THE CONCAVE, SPHERICAL BEARING SURFACE OF THE BEARING MEMBER HAS A RELIEVED PORTION FOR RECEIVING PARTICLES OF ATTRITION FROM THE JOINT MEMBERS FORMED DURING USE OF THE JOINT AND AN OPENING FOR RELEASING THE PARTICLES FROM THE JOINT. A FEMORAL MEMBER WITH A GENERALLY SPHERICAL SHAPED HEAD HAVING A FLAT AREA TO INSURE BETTER WEARING OF THE JOINT IS MOUNTED WITHIN THE BEARING MEMBER.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a torque converter in which a prime mover such as an internal combustion engine, producing rotary movement, is arranged to produce oscillating torque which is then applied via a one-way clutch and a spring to a lost motion device in turn connected to the load. The arrangement is such that the combination of the clutch and spring transfers movement in one direction only to the load.

Abstract:
THERE IS DESCRIBED A SUCTION PAD HAVING SIDE PORTIONS DEPENDING DOWNWARDLY FROM A TOP PORTION AND ADAPTED TO BE BROUGHT INTO GRIPPING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SIDE FACES OF AN ARTICLE TO BE LIFTED BY THE PAD. IN PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS THE PAD PRESENTS A LIFTING SURFACE ALSO TO THE TOP SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE.
Abstract:
The invention concerns apparatus for providing an electrical signal significant of the true weight of a load experiencing vertical accelerations or tilting while being weighed comprising a carrier on which the load is placed during weighing wherein the improvement comprises a load cell through which the apparent weight of the load is transmitted to a support, an accelerometer mounted to be subject to the same vertical accelerations or tilting as the load, and electrical circuitry in which the accelerometer and the load cell are connected and from which said signal is obtained, the accelerometer being connected to suppress the occurrence in the electrical signal of a component produced by vertical acceleration or tilting of the load being weighed.
Abstract:
An improvement is made in a known vacuum tube arrangement in which information is stored as a modulated electron stream traveling to and fro through a drift region between reflecting meshes, information retrieval being accomplished by gating pulses applied to one mesh to allow electrons to pass through it. Analysis of the gating mechanism shows that satisfactory highspeed operation requires a short electron transit time through the decelerating field associated with the gating mesh. One practical means of achieving this involves the provision of a high potential electrode between the drift region and the gating mesh.
Abstract:
A METHOD OF DRYING SPECIMENS UNDER ISOTHERMAL CONDITIONS IN WHICH RECEPTABLES CONTAINING THE SPECIMENS ARE UNIFORMLY HEATED TO A PREDETERMINED TEMPERATURE, THE RECEPTACLES ARE PARTIALLY EVACUATED AND THE TOTAL PRESSURE IN THE RECEPTACLES IS VARIED TO MAINTAIN THE LOSS OF HEAT FROM THE SPECIMENS DUE TO EVAPORATIVE COOLING SUBSTANTIALLY EQUAL TO THE RATE AT WHICH HEAT IS SUPPLIED TO THE SPECIMEN. WHEN THE DESICCATION OF THE SPECIMEN IS COMPLETED, THE RECEPTACLES ARE EVACUATED TO A HIGH VACUUM AND HERMETICALY SEALED.
