A method for sending media information by a first terminal in a multimedia communication system is provided. The method includes generating scene configuration information that includes information regarding at least one medium of multiple media, and sending the scene configuration information to a second terminal, wherein the information regarding the at least one medium includes at least one of information indicating whether to allow reproduction of the at least one medium in the second terminal, resource information used to reproduce the at least one medium, position information used to reproduce the at least one medium on a screen, and reproduction time information for the at least one medium.

A method for transmitting complex multimedia data is provided. The method includes selecting one of a data headers composed of basic transmission units determined according to an amount of multimedia included in the complex multimedia data, generating a basic transmission unit of the complex multimedia data according to the selected data header, packetizing the complex multimedia data in the basic transmission unit; and transmitting the packetized complex multimedia data to a receiver.

A method for transmitting and receiving a message for Downloadable-Conditional Access System (D-CAS) or Downloadable-Digital Rights Management (D-DRM) in Moving Picture Experts Group Media Transport (MMT) is provided. The method includes, upon receiving Composition Information (CI) from an MMT server, acquiring signaling information for D-CAS or D-DRM, which is included in the CI, acquiring, from the signaling information, an address of a server from which software of D-CAS or D-DRM is downloadable, generating a request for the software based on the signaling information, and sending the request for the software to the server address.

A method for providing a notification message in a transmitter of a mobile broadcast system supporting an interaction channel is disclosed. Upon an occurrence of a notification event, a first means generates a notification message, and generates at least one delivery request message including a target address based on subscription information of the corresponding terminal, using the generated notification message. A second means determines a channel over which it will deliver a notification message to the corresponding terminal based on the target address, and delivers the notification message over the determined channel.

A method and an apparatus for processing a media file for an augmented reality service are provided. The method includes analyzing at least one media file including a marker track and a virtual object track to be used for providing the augmented reality service; generating image data needed for reproducing an image by extracting video data and/or audio data included in the media file; generating virtual object data for displaying a virtual object by extracting virtual object information included in the media file; and synthesizing the image data and the virtual object data based on the marker track to structure a final image and reproducing the final image on a screen.

A method and apparatus for receiving a broadcast service in a digital broadcasting system. The method includes receiving, by a reception unit, related information relevant to a common broadcast service being provided in common in at least two Internet Protocol (IP) platforms, from one of the at least two IP platforms; determining, by a mobility management block, whether a currently received broadcast service is the common broadcast service, based on the related information; and continuously receiving the common broadcast service from a remaining IP platform, except for the one of the at least two IP platforms, when the currently received broadcast service is the common broadcast service.

Methods and apparatus are provided for generating 3D image files based on 2D image media standards. First and second image data are photographed, pre-processed, and stored. The first and second image data are encoded. A 3D image file is generated. The 3D image file includes a first area having the first and second image data synchronized with the first image data so as to be used for generating a 3D image, a second area including at least information on a number of frames and a size of each frame for the first image data, and a third area, separate from the second area, having information on a number of frames and a size of each frame for the second image data. Information stored in third area is for regenerating the 3D image and not for regenerating a 2D image.

A method and apparatus for generating a stereoscopic file defined based on a conventional International Standardization Organization (ISO) based media file format. The apparatus includes an encoder encoding first video data and second video data that are included in three-dimensional (3D) video data; and a file generating unit arranging the encoded first video data and second video data according to the information of a stereoscopic file format including boxes that are selected from boxes included in a conventional International Standardization Organization (ISO) based media file format in order to store and generate the stereoscopic file, and generating the stereoscopic file.
