Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to beam failure recovery requests. In one example, a beam failure of a beam is detected, and a determination is made of which beam failure recovery resources to utilize for a beam failure recovery request based on a network configuration. The beam failure recovery request can be transmitted via beam failure recovery resources. In another example, a scheduling entity determines beam failure conditions associated with detecting a beam failure, and ascertains a network configuration for a scheduled entity that can include parameters associated with the beam failure conditions, as well as parameters associated with determining beam failure recovery resources. The network configuration can be transmitted to the scheduled entity to facilitate transmitting a beam failure recovery request. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide to techniques for radio link monitoring (RLM), detecting beam failure, and beam failure recovery (BFR) using radio link monitoring reference signal (RML-RS) resources and beam failure recovery reference signal (BFR-RS) resources. An exemplary method by a user equipment (UE) may include obtaining a first configuration indicating one or more radio link monitoring reference signal (RLM-RS) resources and one or more beam failure recovery reference signal (BFR-RS) resources, wherein each RLM-RS resource corresponds to at least a first link, and each BFR-RS resource corresponds to at least a second link, obtaining a first indication that a first link quality for the first link is below a first threshold and a second link quality for the second link is above a second threshold, and taking action regarding a radio link failure (RLF) based on the indication.

Abstract: A base station may make more efficient use of resources by transmitting data in a control region of a slot in addition to a data region. In order to avoid performance loss, the base station may adjust the data transmission in the control region in comparison to a data transmission in a data region and may signal an indication to a UE to assist the UE in receiving the data transmission in the control region. An apparatus for wireless communication at the UE receives the indication from the base station regarding the data transmission in the control region and uses the indication to perform rate matching or demodulation of the data transmission in the control region. The indication may indicate any of a different MCS/rank/TPR, a reduced MCS/rank/TPR, an MCS/rank/TPR delta, a control span for a group of UEs, and a starting symbol for the data transmission. The indication may also indicate that there is no data transmitted on resources in the control region.

Abstract: In order to provide a more robust RLM procedure for 5G/NR, a base station may provide a dynamic relationship between a PDCCH and another reference signal (e.g., SS/CSI-RS) to a UE. For example, an apparatus may receive an adjustment parameter regarding a PDCCH from a base station. The adjustment parameter may comprise a relationship between the PDCCH and the at least one of the SS or the CSI-RS for deriving a radio link quality of a hypothetical PDCCH. The apparatus may receive an SS/CSI-RS that is QCL with the PDCCH and perform a radio link measurement based on the received at least one of the SS or the CSI-RS using the adjustment parameter regarding the PDCCH. Among other relationships/offsets, the adjustment parameter may indicate a TPR difference, a beamforming gain difference, a beam width difference, a beam orientation difference.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure implement techniques to allow a base station to transmit a “short-page” message (e.g., paging indicators) to one or more UEs. The short-page message may be decoded by all UEs in the paging cycle and identifies a subset of UEs from the full set of UEs that are paged by the base station. Upon decoding the short page transmitted by the base station, the UE may respond with a “short-page response” to the base station on a transmit beam that offers best signal quality (e.g., low signal-to-noise ratio, transmit power, etc.). Thus, in some examples, the UE, in response to receiving a short paging message, may provide feedback to the base station such that the base station may select a transmit beam for transmission for a subsequent message (and other communications).
