Abstract: This document describes techniques and apparatuses for handling radio resource control (RRC) cell group configuration. In implementations, a base station (120) receives a first radio resource control message that requests a connection procedure between a user equipment (110) and the base station (e.g., 325, 425, 1325), such as a radio resource control resume request or a radio resource setup request. In response to receiving the first radio resource control message, the base station (120) generates a second radio resource control message that includes a cell-group-configuration information element that excludes a reconfiguration-with-sync information element (e.g., 330, 430, 1330). The base station (120) then transmits the second radio resource control message to the user equipment (110) (e.g., 335, 435, 1345). Afterward, the base station (120) receives, from the user equipment (110), a third radio resource control message that indicates the connection procedure is complete (e.g., 340, 440, 1350).

Abstract: To reduce latency in uplink communication, a user device transmits first application data in an uplink direction, while the UE is in a connected state associated with a protocol for controlling radio resources (1602), transitioning, in response to a certain period of application data inactivity, to an inactive state associated with the protocol (1604), determining a channel configuration for uplink communication when the user device is in the inactive state (1606), and transmitting, by the processing hardware, further application data in the uplink direction to a base station in accordance with the determined channel configuration (1608) when the user device is in the inactive state, prior to transmitting a request to transition to the connected state and subsequently to completing a procedure for synchronizing the radio link between the user device and the base station.

Abstract: This document describes methods and systems for user equipment (UE) context transfer over radio access network (RAN) paging. A first base station receives from a second base station a first message that includes a context that is associated with a user equipment while the user equipment was in an engaged mode with the second base station. The first base station transmits a second message that is a paging message to the user equipment and in response receives, from the user equipment, a third message that includes a resume message authentication code identifier. After the first base station verifies the third message using the resume message authentication code identifier, the first base station transmits, to the user equipment, a fourth message that enables the user equipment to resume the engaged mode with the first base station in accordance with the context.

Abstract: In some aspects, an evolved universal terrestrial radio access base station generates a capability enquiry message for requesting radio access capabilities of a user equipment. At times, the evolved universal terrestrial radio access base station configures a capability enquiry information element included in the capability enquiry message to request eutra-nr-only radio access capabilities of the user equipment. The evolved universal terrestrial radio access base station then transmits the capability enquiry message to the user equipment. Afterwards, the evolved universal terrestrial radio access base station receives, from the user equipment, a capability information message that includes at least some radio access capabilities for new radio that are supported by the user equipment.

Abstract: This document describes methods and devices for preventing inadvertent idle mode for a UE in multi-node connectivity with a master node and at least one secondary node. In an implementation, the UE includes first and second Media Access Control (MAC) entities for respectively communicating with a master node and a secondary node. The UE starts or restarts at least one data inactivity timer responsive to detecting a communication of data on at least one of the MAC entities. Rather than inadvertently releasing resources of a node as part of the UE transitioning to an idle mode, thereby potentially ceasing connectivity of active communication with the node, the methods and devices described here prevent this release unless connections to both nodes are inactive. By so doing, degradation to a user's experience and the waste of power, computing, or bandwidth resources may be prevented.
