Example methods and apparatus to perform assignments in wireless communications are disclosed. A disclosed example method to receive resource assignments at a mobile station involves receiving an assignment message from a network and identifying radio block periods assigned to the mobile station. At least one of the assigned radio block periods is separated from a next occurring one of the assigned radio block periods by at least one non-assigned radio block period. The example method also involves processing downlink transmissions from the network based on the assigned radio block periods.

Example methods and apparatus to poll in wireless communications based on assignments are disclosed. A disclosed example method involves receiving a poll from a network during a first radio block period and identifying a resource for use in sending requested information to the network in response to the poll. The resource occurs during a subsequent radio block period, and the subsequent radio block period is separated from the first radio block period by at least one radio block period not assigned to the mobile station for transmission by the mobile station. The example method also involves transmitting a response to the poll.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of informing a serving cell of a target cell handover capability are provided. In some cases, a mobile station determines whether inbound handover is possible and communicates this to the serving cell. The mobile station may make this determination based on broadcast information from the target cell. Alternatively, the mobile station may make this determination based on a message generated by a target cell controller that is sent to the mobile station through the serving cell. In another example, the mobile station construes the absence of a response to a cell change notification as an indication that inbound handover to the target cell is not possible.

Systems and methods for allocating and transmitting uplink data block transmissions with piggy-backed ACK/NACK bitmap field are provided. In a specific example, a mobile station receives a request for a data block combined with control information (DBCCI). The mobile station responds by transmitting a DBCCI using at least one timeslot corresponding to a timeslot used for the request. At least some of the time, the mobile station sends data blocks in an order different than that would be otherwise used (e.g. block sequence order).

A disclosed example method involves sending a request to a first access network of a first network type. The request is addressed to a database and requests network connectivity information for connecting to a second access network of a second network type different from the first network type. The example method also involves receiving a response from the first access network. The response includes the network connectivity information for connecting to the second access network.

According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method in a wireless cellular telecommunications device camped on a serving cell, the device storing a parameter obtained from a first cell. The method comprising: measuring an attribute of a signal received from a candidate cell; and, evaluating the candidate cell for re-selection. If a carrier frequency of the candidate cell matches a carrier frequency of the first cell, the evaluation of the candidate cell for re-selection is based on at least the measured attribute and the stored parameter, else the evaluation of the candidate cell for re-selection is performed without using the stored parameter.
