Also disclosed is an implant for stabilizing the tongue, the implant having an anchoring portion for securing a first end of the implant with the mandibula; a control portion connected with the anchoring portion, configured for selectively activating the implant; a flexible portion connected at its proximal end with the control portion, where the flexible portion has three-dimensional flexibility in a first state and where the flexible portion has a lesser three-dimensional flexibility in a second state, and where the flexible portion is selectively switchable between the first and second state by the control portion; and an anchoring portion for connecting the implant with the base of the tongue connected with the distal end of the flexible portion. Methods of treating airway disorders such as sleep apnea and snoring with the airway implant device are disclosed herein.

摘要: A process for preparing saccharide oligomers uses an aqueous feed composition that comprises at least one monosaccharide or linear saccharide oligomer, and has a solids concentration of at least about 70% by weight. The feed composition is heated to a temperature of at least about 40° C., and is contacted with at least one catalyst that accelerates the rate of cleavage or formation of glucosyl bonds, such as enzyme or acid, for a time sufficient to cause formation of non-linear saccharide oligomers. A product composition is produced that contains a higher concentration of non-linear saccharide oligomers than linear saccharide oligomers.

Alternatively, at least two swirlers are included substantially parallel to the centerline axis through the mixer assembly along with one or more radial or conical swirlers. In another alternative, the swirler arrangement includes a first swirler oriented substantially parallel to a centerline axis through the mixer assembly, a second swirler oriented at an acute angle to the centerline axis through the mixer assembly, and a third swirler oriented substantially radially to the centerline axis through the mixer assembly.

摘要: An ultrasound imaging apparatus and method comprises a transducer array, a positioning device for the array, a reflector, a multiplexer, a transmitter/receiver, an image reconstruction and signal processing apparatus, and a monitor. The transducer array and the reflector are located on two sides of an object which are opposite to each other. Every channel of the transducer array can independently transmit and receive signal, and the reflector is used to reflect the transmitted signal from any channel. Thus, the system can collect the echoes from the reflector for all transmit/receive combinations, and then extract from the echoes the time-of-flight data and the attenuation data necessary for estimating the sound velocities and the attenuation coefficients, respectively. When estimating the sound velocities and the attenuation coefficients of different tissues in an object, the B-mode image is applied to provide the segmentation information of the object in order to improve the estimation accuracy. The invention can be used to obtain the ultrasound B-mode image, the sound velocities, and the attenuation coefficients of an object, and can be extended to obtaining other parameters, such as elastic modulus, with a single apparatus.

摘要: Ultrasound imaging adapts as a function of a coherence factor. Various beamforming, image forming or image processing parameters are varied as a function of a coherence factor to improve detail resolution, contrast resolution, dynamic range or SNR. For example, a beamforming parameter such as the transmit or receive aperture size, apodization type or delay is selected to provide maximum coherence. Alternatively or additionally, an image forming parameter, such as the number of beams for coherent synthesis or incoherent compounding, is set as a function of the coherence factor. Alternatively or additionally an image processing parameter such as the dynamic range, linear or nonlinear video filter and/or linear or nonlinear map may also adapt as a function of the coherence factor.

摘要: Methods perform dynamic focusing of a coherent array imaging system are invented. Dynamic focusing in ultrasonic array imaging involves extensive real-time computations and data communication. Particularly for real-time three-dimensional imaging using fully-sampled two-dimensional arrays, implementation of dynamic focusing can be extremely complicated. The invention described in this disclosure greatly simplifies the delay control mechanism by exploiting both spatial and temporal characteristics of the focusing delay patterns. The simplification primarily results from (1) grouping adjacent channels into sub-apertures for the range dependent focusing component, and (2) non-uniform quantization of the delay values.
