Among other things, embodiments of the present disclosure help provide users with concise articles containing the best content from a variety of sources, and present such content in a task-oriented manner that is finite and incentivizes the user to review the content.

Systems and methods for providing a unified targeting solution are disclosed. The system obtains user data for each user in a user group from a database stored in the non-transitory storage medium. The database is organized on a user by user basis and includes signals from a plurality of sources. The system receives an input from an advertiser including a marketing intention. The system includes features extracted from the user data and the input. The system obtains a score for each user based on the extracted features. The system selects users from the user group based on the obtained scores.

The software selectively pre-loads into a cache a resource associated with a content item in a panel if the content item is relatively persistent in comparison to other content items. The cache is controlled by the browser. The software retrieves the resource from the cache upon receiving command from a user and presents the resource through the browser.

Methods, systems and programming for targeting users with engaging content. In one example, a metric with respect to a piece of content is measured for each of a plurality of users. A first set of users is identified from the plurality of users based on the measured metrics and a threshold. User profiles of the first set of users are obtained. A second set of users is then identified based on the user profiles of the first set of users. The piece of content is provided to the second set of users.

Some embodiments of the invention provide techniques for an advertisement mask and a target media content being jointly encoded, transformed, and progressively rendered for presentation to a user. Specifically, a request for the target media content by a user is received. The target media content and the advertisement mask are scaled and divided into equally sized blocks and, further, jointly encoded into a compressed media file. Transformation of the content of the compressed media file is followed by progressively loading and rendering the advertisement mask and a partially obscured view of the media content. As the target media content is transmitted and fully rendered, the advertisement mask gradually decreases in opacity until it is removed for presentation of the fully-rendered target media content.

A crowdsourcing approach is used to collect from contributors, e.g., a large group of consumers, item pricing offered by the sellers from which the contributors have purchased the items. A contributor may provide item pricing information associated with a given store by uploading a receipt from the store, which receipt identifies the item(s) purchased by the contributor and a price for each item purchased, store information, e.g., store name, location, telephone number, etc. A database or other data store may be used to maintain contributor, store and item information. The stored information may identify which store is/are selling which item(s) and at what price(s). A shopping list may be generated, which includes information identifying one or more items and, for each item, the store at which the item(s) may be purchased at the lowest available price relative to other stores. By analyzing consumers' shopping habits, personalized target of ads and/or promotions can be achieved.

A real-time locater for digital media objects, related to one or more musical compositions and accessible over a network, is described. A service-provider maintains a master index of the digital media objects and a playlist-resolver server. The master index is organized by considering each media object to be an example of a primary attribute associated with the media object by a multitude of users. The reference is constructed as a data structure of primary attributes and means of locating the media objects as instances of primary attributes. The playlist-resolver works with the master index to translate a list of references to creative works into a series of successful accesses to the corresponding media object files.

Methods and systems for controlling a networked display via a client device are provided. The client device and the networked display are connected by a network. A session is initiated between the client device and the networked display, and a remote user interface is transmitted from the networked display to the client device. Interactivity with the remote user interface is detected at the client device, and input data is transmitted from the client device to the networked display based on the interactivity with the remote user interface. The input data is interpreted at the networked display so as to cause a change in a state of an application being executed by the networked display. And the remote user interface is updated based on the changed state of the application executed by the networked display.

A system and method are directed towards providing non-requested content to a mobile terminal based on characteristics of, and tracked usage of the mobile terminal to request content through an online portal service, which provides access to content in multiple subject areas. A mobile user profile is created from the characteristics and patterns of the tracked usage. The tracked usage information includes the time, location, frequency at which the content was requested. Based on the mobile user profile information, content related to previously requested content is provided to the mobile terminal upon a trigger that is related to the requested content. The trigger event may include the mobile terminal returning to a location from which certain content was previously requested. The non-requested content may further be based on a related general user profile that indicates usage of an alternate electronic device to access content through the portal.
