Abstract: A method of minimizing condensation on a lower surface of an inkjet printhead. The inkjet printhead has a plurality of printhead chips mounted on a manifold and a shield plate defining the lower surface. The method includes the steps of: disposing a heating layer between the manifold and the shield plate; heating the heating layer; and printing using the printhead chips, wherein heating of the heating layer minimizes condensation on the lower surface.

The slot die with variable nozzles, which applies ink on a substrate to perform a coating process, includes: a first body having a cavity configured to accommodate ink supplied from the outside; a second body spaced apart from the first body in a transfer direction of a substrate or a direction opposite to the transfer direction; a shim plate coupled between the first body and the second body and having an discharge port configured to communicate with the cavity and discharge ink accommodated in the cavity toward the substrate; and a plurality of variable nozzles disposed at a lower end of the first body or the second body in a width direction of the substrate so as to be adjacent to the discharge port, wherein each of the plurality of variable nozzles is independently driven according to a state of the ink coated on the substrate and adjusts a partial discharge amount of the ink discharged from the discharge port by changing a partial area of the discharge port at an arrangement position thereof.

Abstract: There is provided an inkjet printing apparatus capable of stably outputting high quality images in a configuration of feeding a print medium that is kept horizontal, performing printing by the use of a print head, and conveying the print medium vertically upward. To this purpose, a platen that supports the back side of the print medium in a position facing a printing part of the print head is located to support the print medium at an angle greater than 0° and less than 90° with respect to the horizontal direction, thereby reducing a contact pressure from roller pairs on the printed side immediately after printing.

Abstract: Printheads and printers are described herein. In one example, a printhead includes a number of drop generators disposed in a first array and a second array. The drop generators in both the first array and the second array are spaced one dot pitch apart perpendicular to the motion of a print medium, and alternate between a high drop weight (HDW) drop generator and a low drop weight (LDW) drop generator. Each drop generator in the first array is in a line of the motion of the print medium with a corresponding drop generator in the second array, wherein each HDW drop generator in the first array is in line with an LDW drop generator in the second array, and each LDW drop generator in the first array is in line with an HDW drop generator in the second array.

Abstract: A printing system includes a pair of encoders to compensate for encoder noise in the velocity of a media transport as the transport moves past a plurality of printheads. One encoder monitors a roller that positioned at a location of low thermal stress and the signal generated by this encoder is used by a controller to maintain a constant velocity for the media transport. The second encoder monitors a roller used to drive the media transport and is positioned close to the print zone opposite the printheads. The signal from the second encoder is used to identify a corrected distance between each tic in the tics generated by the second encoder and the corrected distance is used to count a firing distance for generation of a dot clock signal to activate ejectors in a printhead when a substrate has traveled the firing distance.
