Abstract:
A novel article and method are disclosed including a heated disposable wash cloth. In one aspect, the invention provides a novel article and method including a wash cloth structure having from about 75 to about 89 weight percent of a thermoretentive oil-in-water emulsion. In one aspect, the fiber content contains a 50/50 ratio of rayon and polyester compositionally part of the wash cloth substrate structure. The novel article and method of the present invention are effective in maintaining extended warmth on the skin and providing moisturization of the skin surface for up to 6 hours after washing.
Abstract:
A filter media formed in accordance with the present invention comprises hydroentangled, predominantly polyester staple length fibers having a basis weight of no more than about 12 oz/yd2. The filter media exhibits a Mullen burst strength of at least about 395 psi, and machine-direction and cross-direction shrinkage of less than about 3%, preferably less than about 2%. The filter media exhibits a machine-direction tensile strength of at least about 105 lb/in, and a cross-direction tensile strength of at least about 110 lb/in.
Abstract:
A cleaning sheet for printer cylinders is produced by three-dimensionally aggregating fibers into a sheet in a wet paper-making process. The cleaning sheet contains thermofusible fibers that serves as binder fibers, and is creped by heating it at a temperature at which the thermofusible binder fibers therein fuse to thereby make the sheet surface have numerous irregularities.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed of controlling the thermohysteresis of a homogeneous or layered fibrous pre-form, comprised at least in part of thermoplastic staple length fibers, such that the physical properties of the resulting molded three-dimensional compound construct are significantly enhanced. In particular, the thermohysteresis is the result of a specific thermal history comprising the treatment of a fibrous pre-form with an elevated temperature incubation period followed by a cooling period. A so-treated fibrous pre-form can be subsequently molded by conventional thermomolding methods to render improved toughness, strength and structural stability to a resulting molded construct.

A reinforcing structure adapted for use in the manufacture of a pultruded part where the reinforcing structure is pulled through a pultrusion die in a continuous longitudinal pull direction. The reinforcing structure includes a permeable transport web of staple fibers and a plurality of first reinforcing fibers attached to the permeable transport web. The portion of the first reinforcing fibers extending in a transverse direction comprises at least 40% of a volume of materials comprising the reinforcing structure.
Abstract:
A method for creating a nonwoven laminate fabric has steps of depositing a first nonwovne layer on a moving support, depositing a second nonwoven layer over the first layer, and conveying the layers under a manifold. The manifold has a plurality of jet clusters separated from one another by a distance. Water is directed form the jet clusters onto the underlying layers to thereby create a laminated fabric. Because the jet clusters are separated from one another, the laminate fabric is nullpattern entanglednull. Bundling occurs along substantially linear lines, with much lighter bundling in regions between the linear bundling regions. The result is a fabric with regions of relative strong entanglement and other regions of much lighter entanglement. When three layers are laminated, with top and bottom layers of thin veneer and a center layer of pulp the method of the invention has been discovered to result in a laminate fabric with particular utility as a flushable wipe product.
Abstract:
A shrinkable protective material includes a nonwoven fabric bonded to a shrinkable film by an adhesive that is applied to either the nonwoven fabric or the shrinkable film in a pre-determined pattern. Upon shrinking, the nonwoven fabric separates or releases from the film and forms cushions or pillows holding the film off of the surface being protected. The edge portions of the cushions or pillows act as shock absorbers and deflect over the bonds, thus protecting the surface against the abrasive adhesively bonded portions.

A non-woven flame blocking fabric and method utilizes a fibrous blend of a concentration of cellulosic organic fibers (A) and a concentration of inorganic fibers (B) to which a flame retardant composition (C) is applied. The concentrations of fibers are blended and treated to form a flame retardant fiber blend capable of forming a non-woven flame blocking fabric that upon exposure to flame forms a reinforced char barrier (D) that prevents the flame from igniting any flammable substrate. The reinforced char barrier (D) includes the carbonized cellulosic organic fibers and melted inorganic fibers. A concentration of binder fibers or powders (E) may alternatively supplement the fiber blend to produce a low profile flame blocker fabric upon activation and calendaring. The fabric preferably has a low profile as a result of compaction and bonding, but the fabric may be provided as a high-loft web.

Provided is a water-decomposable fibrous sheet including fibers containing at least 3% by mass of fibrillated rayon. The fibrillated rayon has a degree of beating of at most 700 cc and has primary fibers of a predetermined fiber length and microfibers extending from the primary fibers. In the fibrous sheet, the microfibers are entangled with at least either of other microfibers and other fibers therein, and the surface friction resistance of the fibrous sheet in dry, measured according to the abrasion resistance test method of JIS P-8136, is at least three rubbing cycles.
