Abstract:
The objects of the invention are to prevent the backflow of slurry by first enclosing it in a closed space and then using air to force it along a discharge channel, and at the same time to ensure the smooth throughput of the slurry by causing any foreign bodies in the slurry to be broken up en route. To this end, the invention is provided with a casing enclosing a circular cross-section rotor chamber and a rotor which fits inside said rotor chamber and which is caused to rotate by a drive means. The rotor is also fitted with blades en bloc which extend radially from the rotating center section and which form moving chambers that rotate along with the rotor inside the rotor chamber. The casing is also provided with an intake port that connects with the moving chambers at the slurry intake point and a discharge port and air supply port, each of which connects, with the moving chambers at the slurry discharge point.
Abstract:
A device for transport of material between chambers at different pressures, comprises a feed chamber, a main chamber having an upper housing with an inlet and a lower housing with an outlet. The feed chamber is coupled to the main chamber at the inlet, and a first slide valve opens and closes the inlet. A second slide valve for opening land closing the outlet may be provided. At least one hollow gasket with an essentially closed wall, preferably an inflatable gasket, is provided between the upper housing and the first slide valve for sealing the inlet; and, at least one gasket with an essentially closed wall, preferably an inflatable gasket, may be provided between the lower housing and the second slide valve for sealing the outlet. Alternatively, a first flap valve for opening and closing the inlet is provided which is pivotally coupled to the upper housing at one side. At least one hollow gasket with an essentially closed wall, preferably an inflatable gasket, is coupled between the upper housing and the first flap valve for sealing the inlet.
Abstract:
An improved bulk cement metering apparatus includes a valve housing having a cylindrical inner housing bore. The housing has an inlet opening through a side wall thereof. A housing outlet is defined at an open lower end of the cylindrical valve housing. A cylindrical valve element is concentrically and rotatably received within the housing bore. The valve element is rotatable relative to the valve housing between a first fully closed position and a second fully open position. In the closed position the valve element completely blocks the inlet opening. In the open position the inlet opening is completely open. As the valve element rotates from its closed position to its open position a circumferentially extending cutout means thereof progressively uncovers an increasing upper portion of the inlet opening. This design results in decreased plugging of the metering device at low flow rates.
Abstract:
In a rotary valve having a housing, a drive shaft journaled in the housing and having an end portion thereof projecting into a rotor chamber in the housing, a rotor mounted on a drive shaft and axially displaceable thereon and means for accessing the rotor to permit axial removal of the rotor from the rotor chamber, a rotor handling system comprising, a support means mounted on the housing, an assembly including a mandrel supported in the support means operable to axially register the mandrel with the drive shaft to permit the axial displacement of the rotor onto the mandrel, a carrier means mounted on the mandrel and axially displaceable thereon, a locking means mounted on the carrier member and selectively engageable with the rotor when the mandrel is disposed in axial alignment with the drive shaft for selectively locking the rotor to the carrier member and means operable for axially displacing the carrier means whereby upon the mandrel being axially registered with the drive shaft, the carrier member being disposed in locking relation with the rotor and axial displacing means being operated, the rotor will be caused to mvoe onto and off of the mandrel.
Abstract:
A vane pump delivers pasty materials, particularly sausage stuffing, for the purpose of filling doses of the stuffing into sausage cases. The flow of material into the pump chamber generally takes place by a stuffing device in the hopper and by the action of the vacuum to which the vane pump is exposed. The degree of filling and therefore the dosing accuracy is improved by providing a curved portion in the transition area between the inner wall of the cylindrical part of the cup-shaped pump casing and the base part of the latter receiving the pump rotor mounting.
Abstract:
A rotary valve and associated method of cleaning, including a generally cylindrical housing (104) defining a central axis, and a rotatable shaft (106) mounted in a first end plate (130) of the housing for rotation by a drive system (108) operating adjacent the first end plate. A vane rotor (102) is connectable to the shaft in an operating position entirely within the housing for transmitting the rotation of the shaft about the axis to the vanes (140) of the rotor. The rotor is selectively axially displaceable relative to the shaft, into a cleaning position entirely outside the housing. This is facilitated by the mounting of the rotor to the other, second end plate (110), such that the disassembly of the second end plate from the housing and the axial displacement thereof away from the first end plate, also displaces the rotor. Thus, the shaft is never disengaged from the drive system and, therefore, the longitudinal and radial positions of the shaft relative to the axis, are not disturbed during disassembly and reassembly.
Abstract:
An apparatus for continuously conveying a powder in a gas flow has a configuration of the bottom end of the supply reservoir in the form of a funnel-shaped guide surface converging towards a pointed end. This surface is intersected by a vertically extending cylindrical well defining a bottom area where the powder is received in perforations formed in a rotary disc for discharge from the well. The wall of the well is preferably provided with a fluidizing gas inlet.
Abstract:
A rotary feeder includes a housing in which a rotary member is supported between two lateral bearing caps, with one journal fixedly supported in one bearing cap and the other journal loosely supported in the other bearing cap. For facilitating maintenance and cleaning of the rotary feeder, a carriage is securely mounted to the one bearing cap accommodating the fixed bearing. The carriage is movable and suitably guided in axial direction of the rotary member by at least the axial length of the rotary member so as to allow removal and return of the rotary member from and back into the housing in an accurate and safe manner.
Abstract:
Apparatus for passing a feed of particulate material into a pneumatic conveyor conduit includes a charging chamber communicating with the material feed and a closure arrangement having a closure cone axially movable between a position of communicating the charging chamber with the material feed and a closure position of closing off the chamber from the feed. The closure cone is formed by the base portion of a hollow operating member extending substantially axially in the direction of flow of the material from the feed into the chamber. The operating member is generally tubular and has at least one opening outside the material flow path into the charging chamber. A closure element within the operating member is movable between first and second positions of closing and opening the opening in the operating member, in dependence on the phase of the conveying operation. When the closure element is in the position of closing the opening in the operating member, movement of the closure element also causes axial movement of the latter to displace the base portion thereof which forms the closure cone between its closed and open positions. When the closure cone is in a closed position and the closure element is in an open position, air can be vented from the chamber upwardly through the operating member and through the opening therein, around the closure element.
Abstract:
A sluice type apparatus for discharging batches of material from a pressurized enclosure has a container with an upper inlet and a lower outlet each closable by a slide gate. Preferably, each slide gate has two slide gate members driven by respective piston cylinder devices so that one gate is closed while the other gate is open and vice versa. At least the slide gate members for opening and closing the inlet are withdrawn from their inlet closing position into a respective outwardly closed or sealed chamber for making it easier to keep the container pressurized. The seals between the chamber entrance slots and the respective slide gate member are not required to be precision seals because any material that may pass into these outwardly closed or sealed chambers is easily removed again.
