Abstract:
An apparatus converts a screen with an aspect ratio of 4:3 to a screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9. When the input image is given as a frame buffer that is not encoded, the present invention extracts motion vector by performing block motion matching operation, and when the input image is a digitally encoded bit stream, it extracts motion vectors from the decoded data. The motion vectors are subjected to filtering in terms of time and space. The apparatus extracts global motion information from the motion vectors that have been filtered. Utilizing the global motion information extracted from and the partial images from the adjacent frames, the present invention generates the image information that is displayed on the blank regions of the screen. The blank regions on left and right of the screen caused by the differences in the screen aspect ratios are composed from the actual image information.
Abstract:
Designed for use with widescreen TVs or high-end TVs with a mode for accommodating anamorphic programs, an EPG client is equipped with an electronic program guide (EPG) and a letterbox-to-anamorphic converter. The EPG client evaluates EPG data to determine whether programs are in the letterbox format. When a letterboxed program is selected for viewing, the EPG client vertically stretches the program by a ratio of M/N, where M>N (e.g., 4/3), to convert the program from the letterbox format to an anamorphic format prior to delivery to the television. The converted anamorphic program is output to the television, where it is horizontally expanded to fit the screen.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for video data processing in digital video decoding, such as digital video disk (DVD) decoding, which produces new video data according to main picture data, sub-picture unit (SPU) data, and an aspect ratio. The apparatus includes a sub-picture-unit-decoding and color-determining device, a mixer, a buffer, and an interpolator. The sub-picture-unit-decoding and color-determining device is used for performing sub-picture decoding and color determination on the SPU data, and producing decoded SPU data. The mixer, coupled to the SPU-decoding and color-determining device, is employed to mix the main picture data and the decoded SPU data, and outputting combined video data. The buffer, coupled to the mixer, for storing the combined video data outputted from the mixer. The interpolator is used to receive the combined video data from the mixer and to read previously combined video data from the buffer, and to generate the new video data by performing an interpolation operation according to the aspect ratio, the combined video data, and the previously combined video data.
Abstract:
A system and method of transmitting an image adapted to a first display area size, such as a standard computer screen having a particular pixel-by-pixel resolution, to an apparatus having a smaller second display area size by scaling the image through coefficient cropping its frequency domain representation. When the cropped frequency coefficients are used to display an image within the second smaller display area, a scaled version of the image is displayed. In a specific embodiment, frequency domain coefficients are cropped such that a region of interest of the image is scaled down less than the remainder of the image when displayed in the second smaller display area. Scaling in this manner provides the user with a readable region of interest with the remainder of the image scaled down so as to facilitate easy image navigation by the user.
Abstract:
A video decoder compliant with the Advanced Television Systems Standard (ATSC) includes circuitry which, when the decoder is operated in a first mode, decodes a Main Profile, High Level (MP@HL) image to produce a high-definition video output signal and decodes a Main Profile, Main Level (MP@ML) signal to produce a standard definition video signal. In addition, when the decoder is operated in a second mode, circuitry is used which generates a standard definition image from the MP@HL signal. The video decoder includes a frequency-domain filter to reduce the resolution of the MP@HL signal when the decoder is operated in the second mode.
Abstract:
Technology is disclosed that allows an immersive video to be transmitted from a first site to a second site using standard television infrastructure. Each frame of the immersive video is packed into at least one standard television frame. The standard television frame is suitable for transmission using standard television infrastructure. Once the standard television frame is received at the second site, the immersive video frame is reconstructed. The reconstructed immersive video frame can then be transmitted, recorded, viewed, or used to generate a view for transmission or recording.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for preventing interference between simultaneously-running processes in a set top box processing system which attempt to access certain shared processing hardware such as a drawing acceleration engine. A graphics processor or other device such as a CPU associated with the processor includes a register with an acquire bit portion and a process identifier portion. When a given process requests access to a graphics engine or other shared processing hardware, a determination is made as to whether the acquire bit of the register is set. A set acquire bit indicates that some process has already been granted access to the engine. If the acquire bit is not set, the requesting process is granted access to the engine, and its process identifier is stored in the process identifier portion of the register. If the acquire bit is already set when the given process requests access to the engine, the identifier for that process is compared to the identifier stored in the process identifier portion of the register. If the identifiers match, the requesting process is granted access. The lack of a match between the identifiers indicates that a different process has previously been granted access to the engine, and the requesting process is therefore denied access to the engine. When a process granted access to the engine no longer requires access, the acquire bit is cleared.
Abstract:
A method of displaying a digital broadcasting signal using a digital broadcasting receiver and a digital display device is disclosed. In the present invention, information on a display mode of the display device is communicated to the digital broadcasting receiver through a bi-directional communication line. As a result, the digital broadcasting receiver can process the input digital broadcasting signal according to the display mode. Thus, the digital broadcasting signal can be displayed in an optimum display mode through the digital display device. Accordingly, the received digital broadcasting signal can be displayed in diverse formats and in an optimum condition.
Abstract:
A display apparatus and a display method are disclosed. The display apparatus includes: a display, configured to display an image and/or a user interface; an external device interface, configured to connect an external device; at least one processor, configured to execute instructions to cause the display apparatus to: obtain a first command input from a user for switching a viewing angle ratio; obtain audio and video meta information of the external device, and parse a flag field in the audio and video meta information; send declaration information to the external device according to the first command in response to the flag field being identical to a determination field; receive video data returned from the external device for the declaration information, where an image ratio of the video data is equivalent with the switched viewing angle ratio; and control the display to display the video data.
Abstract:
The present disclosure describes techniques for optimizing screen utilization of a content item displayed on a client device. The method can include receiving, from a client device, a request for content including one or more parameters corresponding to a content slot. The method can include determining that a first display orientation of the content item does not match a second display orientation of the content slot. The method can include transmitting, responsive to determining that the first display orientation of the content item does not match the second display orientation of the content slot, the content item and instructions that when executed, cause the client device to adjust an aspect ratio of the content slot based on the first display orientation of the content item.
