    摘要: 1266-03028 A color display system includes a color light separator that separates incident white illumination light into red, green and blue wavelength bands to be directed to distinct color component sub-pixels (sometimes called dots) that are arranged in a dot-matrix, color triad arrangement (e.g., stripe or delta) to form individual picture elements (pixels) on a pixelated electronic image device (e.g., LCD of DMD). The entire picture is optically shifted from one set of color component sub-pixels to another in a 3-field sequence. As a result, the sets of red, green and blue color component sub-pixels appear to an observer as a single full-color image, thereby providing a dot sequential color display.

    摘要: A color liquid crystal display projector has a light source with a radiating element (e.g., arc or incandescent) and a liquid crystal display (LCD). The LCD includes an array of multiple picture elements or pixels that each have separate color component sub-pixels (e.g., red, green and blue). Multiple differently inclined dichroic mirrors angularly separate the light into light beams of different color components. An integrating lens array relay system has a pair of planar lens arrays that form multiple spatially separated images of the angularly-color separated light components. An array of microlenses is positioned adjacent to the LCD. Each microlens is in one-to-one alignment with LCD pixels along at least one dimension and images the spatially separated images upon multiple pixels in at least the one dimension.

    摘要: A projection type image display apparatus of the present invention includes: a light source; a polarization selective reflection element having a function of reflecting or transmitting a light beam from the light source in accordance with a polarization direction thereof; and an element for modulating a polarization plane of an incident light beam in accordance with an image to be displayed. The polarization selective reflection element is film-like and has an optical transmission axis and an optical reflection axis. The polarization selective reflection element transmits a first linearly polarized light beam, and reflects a second linearly polarized light beam having a polarization plane orthogonal to a polarization plane of the first linearly polarized light beam, regardless of a direction of incidence of a light beam with respect to the polarization selective reflection element.

    摘要: In an LCD projector, a color mixing optical system for mixing color beams transmitted through LCD elements includes an optical path length adjuster in three light paths from a light source to the LCD elements. The adjuster includes polarization beam splitters, phase plates, and light-beam reflectors. The numbers of reflections of the color beams in the optical paths from the light source to the projection lens are set only to odd values or only to even values. The adjusters are arranged and configured to equalize the respective optical path lengths to each other. With this configuration, the relative distribution of intensity of illumination is substantially equalized for the beams illuminating the respective LCD elements. Compounding the beams, there is attained a projected screen image with a satisfactory white balance and homogeneous chromaticity and luminance. Consequently, there is implemented an LCD projector capable of projecting on a screen an image having a favorable white balance and uniform chromaticity and luminance.

    摘要: A beamsplitter/staggerer (24) for multi-beam laser printers is disclosed. The multi-beam laser printer is comprised of the beamsplitter/staggerer (24), a spatial light modulator (16) having at least two rows of staggered modulator pixel elements (19), and an illumination system comprised of a laser array (10) and an optical system (13) which provides a narrow line of laser light. The beamsplitter/staggerer is adapted to split the narrow line of laser light into at least two parallel lines of light, and to split each of the parallel lines of light into regions, such that substantially all of the light from the illumination system falls onto each of the modulator pixel elements (19) in each of the rows. In one embodiment, the beamsplitter/staggerer comprises a pattern of reflecting areas (26) and transmitting areas (27) wherein a shape of the regions defined by the beamsplitter/staggerer matches a shape of the modulator pixel elements (19).

    摘要: An optical projector is described that orients its optics engine preferably vertically within an enclosure that is higher than it is wide or deep. The invented optics engine uses a prismatic cube for color separation or beam splitting, with the prismatic elements within the cube being secured within a durable frame that mounts the three color light valves, e.g. twisted nematic liquid crystal display (LCD)-type shutters, in a predefined position and orientation relative to the prismatic cube. In order to improve image quality and brightness, especially of the notoriously difficult-to-reproduce green color, red and blue beams are S polarized, as is conventional, but the green beam is P-polarized. The invented optical projector preferably includes a frame having a footing portion for resting on a support surface, a light source high above the footing portion, optical convolution structure downstream from the light source for reverse-bending downwardly flowing light from the source, light modulation structure near the reverse bend region for infusing the light with image information and for directing modulated light upwardly in a projectable, image-containing stream of light and outward-projection directing structure high on the frame for receiving and outwardly directing such stream of light.

    摘要: A projection display comprising: a square column dichroic prism composed of four triangle prisms having equal refractive index together whose cross sections are right isosceles triangles such that three light valves are located adjacent to three exterior peripheral surfaces of dichroic prism to receive colored and modulated light beams therefrom and; a filter for absorbing light with a specified wavelength range, leaked from surface of dichroic prism at the opposite side of incident light surface and directed to liquid crystal light valve, the filter being located between liquid crystal light valves and surface of dichroic prism. As for construction of the dichroic prism itself, specifically, of the four aforementioned triangular prisms, the first triangular prism and the aforementioned third triangular prism are mutually affixed in a condition in which there is a first step difference in the vertical direction. The first exposed side is formed on one edge of the affixed side of the first triangular prism. Similarly, the second triangular prism and the fourth triangular prism are attached to each other such that there is a second step difference on the same edge, and a second exposed side is formed on one edge of the affixed surface of the second triangular prism. Further, the first and the third triangular prisms and the second and the fourth triangular prisms are attached, with a step difference between them, in such a way that the aforementioned first exposed side and the aforementioned second exposed side are located on the edges facing the same direction; and a third exposed surface that is orthogonal to the aforementioned first and second exposed surfaces is formed between the aforementioned first triangular prism and the aforementioned second triangular prism.
