A sheet of an artificial leather substrate contains an upper-layer nonwoven fabric A (1) and a base nonwoven fabric B (2). The upper-layer nonwoven fabric A (1) is a wet-laid nonwoven fabric having a density of 0.30 to 0.50 g/cm3 and being produced with synthetic fibers in which the component fibers have a fineness of 0.005 to 1.1 dtex, a fiber length of 3 to 10 mm and a weight per unit area of 20 to 150 g/m2, and the base nonwoven fabric B (2) is a layer of a nonwoven fabric having a density of 0.15 g/cm3 or more and less than 0.28 g/cm3 and being produced with synthetic fibers in which the component fibers have a fineness greater than that of the component fibers of the upper-layer nonwoven fabric A and 4.5 dtex or less, a fiber length of 2 to 15 mm and a weight per unit area of 50 to 400 g/m2. The upper-layer nonwoven fabric A (1) and the base nonwoven fabric B (2) are layered, made into a single body by entanglement of the component fibers of both layers and impregnated with an elastic polymer. Thus, artificial leather having a texture similar to natural leather and a substrate for use therein are provided at low cost.

The present invention relates to a solvent-free polyurethane-based artificial leather having the texture of human skin, and particularly to artificial leather comprising soy protein isolate and solvent-free polyurethane resin, where the use of soy protein isolate provides a higher water content than that of the conventional artificial leather to improve sensitivity properties such as tactile sensation and the use of the solvent-free polyurethane resin provides higher heat resistance and better mechanical properties than those of the conventional artificial leather, without using an organic solvent, thereby enabling to maintain clean indoor air.

A method is provided for making extensible artificial leather. In the method, a substrate is supported on in-extensible woven cloth and locating the substrate firmly on a coating machine. Foamy highly solid-containing water-based polyurethane resin is coated on the substrate for forming a middle layer with tiny open cells. The middle layer is dried and the woven cloth is removed from the substrate. A superficial layer of polyurethane is attached to the middle layer in a dry process so that the extensible artificial leather is made with excellent strength against peeling, abrasion and dissolution.

The luminary material according to the invention exhibits various colors, patterns and/or textures formed on the surface. A method for manufacturing an artificial leather comprises the following steps. First, ultramicrofiber-forming fibers having an islands-in-sea type cross-sectional configuration are formed by blend spinning or conjugate spinning. Secondly, a porous reinforcement sheet of low compactness is formed from polyester, polyurethane or polyolefin by spunbonding, meltblowing or calendering. Next, the ultramicrofibers are entangled with the reinforcement sheet by needle punching or spunlace to form the complex reinforced ultramicrofiber nonwoven fabric. The nonwoven is impregnated or coated with an elastomer resin composition, and then subjected to a coagulating process, a washing process, a drying process and a removing process to produce a semi-product leather. Finally, the semi-product leather is then processed to produce the artificial leather.
