Abstract: A lateral pharyngeal wall tractor comprises a bone fixer, a traction mechanism and a lateral pharyngeal wall fixer. The lateral pharyngeal wall fixer is fixed on an M. palatopharyngeus or other submucous tissues of a lateral pharyngeal wall. With the bone fixer fixed on a processus alveolaris or a hamulus pterygoideus or a processus pterygoideus as a supporting point, one end of the traction mechanism is connected to the bone fixer, the other end is connected to the lateral pharyngeal wall fixer, and as a result, the submucous tissue of the lateral pharyngeal wall is pulled outward. The elastic traction force produced by the traction mechanism is greater than the collapse force of the lateral pharyngeal wall which is produced by negative pressure during inspiration, but is less than the contraction force which is produced by the muscle of the lateral pharyngeal wall during deglutition.

Abstract: An implanted tongue septum fascia retraction device includes a fascia fixer, a pull line and a mandible fixer. The fascia fixer is fixed to a tongue septum fascia by means of a fixing clamp, a fixing hook or a fixing ring, and the mandible fixer is fixed to a mandible. One end of the pull line is connected to the fascia fixer, and the other end of the pull line is fixed to the mandible fixer. By adjusting the tightness of a pull line, a tongue septum fascia may be retracted forwards, thus pulling a falling tongue base forwards, opening an obstructed upper airway, and fulfilling the aim of treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSA) caused by glossoptosis.

Abstract: A medical device for combating overweight or obesity in humans by achieving a more rapid feeling of satiety utilizes a bite raiser which can be connected to the human maxilla and/or mandible and which covers at least some of the occlusal surface of the masticatory teeth. A splint adapted to tooth crowns equips at least some of the masticatory teeth with an occlusal elevation for reducing the size of the masticatory surface. The occlusal elevation overlies the cusp tips of a masticatory tooth in order to link the bite elevation to a spanning of the masticatory relief of the covered masticatory tooth.

Abstract: A computationally implemented method includes, but is not limited to: determining an incrementally progressive series of adjustment appliances, each of the series of adjustment appliances having geometries selected to progressively reposition teeth; and determining for each of the series of adjustment appliances, a vertical displacement and a forward mandibular position for treating sleep apnea. In addition to the foregoing, other method aspects are described in the claims, drawings, and text forming a part of the present disclosure.

Abstract: A tongue grasping and restraining device holds the tongue securely during sleep in order to minimize the risk of the tongue slipping back and blocking the throat, a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea. Plural tongue gripping projections are coupled to upper and lower supports. The projections engage and hold the tongue. The upper and lower supports are biased toward one another into a tongue engaging position. The upper support is coupled to the user's upper jaw, for example, to a denture, dental appliance or by upper teeth engaging mechanisms. The lower support can be hinged or otherwise joined to the upper support or can be separate therefrom. A tube and rod mechanism in one embodiment couples the upper and lower supports together. Exemplary methods of manufacturing tongue gripping projections are also disclosed.

Abstract: The current invention relates to an adjustable mandibular advancement device with a unique combination of resilient hinging and adjustability to prevent or reduce snoring and/or obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. The adjustability is described by means of two concepts of adjustability for the relative enlargement or diminution of the members of the device, incremental and successive advancement mechanisms, in either combination or separately. By use of thermoplastic materials the device can be used in the outmost variability of the human dentition.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for improving airway patency are provided. A medial surface of the patient's tongue is constrained with a tongue constraint of an oral device placed in the oral cavity to generate a clear region between the medial surface and the hard palate. The clear region is in fluid communication with the soft palate. The tongue constraint has superior surface and inferior surfaces configured to generate the clear region. Negative pressure is applied within the oral cavity to hold the soft palate in a position in which the airway is at least partially open. The negative pressure is applied through one or more ports of the oral device. The one or more ports remain unobstructed by the tongue when the negative pressure is applied. The applied negative pressure causes the soft palate and tongue form a seal whereby the patient's airway is substantially fluidly isolated from the clear region.
