Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods provide for transmitting a Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) or other reference signal over a cellular network operating on an unlicensed radio band. Specifically, an apparatus, such as a User Equipment (UE) or Base Station (eNB), determines one or more channel sensing metrics for a radio channel. Based on the channel sensing metrics, the apparatus then determines a Listen Before Talk (LBT) mode and/or a LBT sensing time. The UE then performs a LBT process using the LBT mode and the LBT sensing time. If the UE determines that the radio channel is not occupied, the UE transmits a signal, such as a control signal (e.g., a Sounding Reference Signal (SRS)), over the radio channel.

Abstract: Communication is implemented between at least one access node of a wireless network and a terminal attached to the wireless network. The communication is on at least one narrowband carrier (311-1, 311-2) comprising resources (308) in a first spectrum (301) and operating according to a first radio access technology, e.g., Narrowband Internet of Things, NB-IoT. The first spectrum (301) is arranged at least partly within a second spectrum (302) on which communication between the at least one access node and a second terminal is executed on a wideband carrier (312). The wideband carrier (312) comprises resources (308) in the second spectrum (302) and operates according to a second radio access technology different to the first radio access technology, e.g., Machine-Type Communication, MTC, or evolved UMTS radio access, E-UTRA. In some examples, the first spectrum (301) and the second spectrum (302) both may comprise a shared spectrum.

Abstract: A method for improving fairness among devices accessing a radio bandwidth. The devices include a mobile device using the radio bandwidth to access a radio access system using a channel access protocol, wherein the channel access protocol is a collision avoidance-type channel access protocol configured for using a back-off time before transmitting a retransmission (e.g., CSMA). Information is determined from the radio bandwidth. The information is analyzed to determine an adjusted back-off time. The mobile device implements the adjusted back off time before transmitting the retransmission over the radio bandwidth.

Abstract: Methods of operating an electronic device are provided. A method of operating a first electronic device includes listening for a wireless transmission by a second electronic device on a wireless communications channel. The method includes determining whether a packet is a particular type of packet. The method includes assigning a randomized time delay value that defines a randomized delay period, in response to determining that the packet is the particular type of packet. The method includes beginning the randomized delay period in response to determining that the wireless communications channel is clear. Moreover, the method includes transmitting the packet via the wireless communications channel based on expiration of the randomized delay period. Related electronic devices and computer program products are also provided.
