    Abstract: Some embodiments described herein provide a method for transmitting a preamble in accordance with a wireless local area network communication protocol. In some embodiments, a data frame may be obtained for transmission including a preamble compliant with the wireless local area network communication protocol. It may be determined that the preamble includes a first preamble portion that spans multiple symbol durations and a second preamble portion that spans a single symbol duration. The first preamble portion via beamforming may be transmitted based on a first beamforming matrix. When a transmission mode of the second preamble portion is beamforming, a second beamforming matrix may be generated based on the first beamforming matrix, each tone for the second preamble portion may be calculated based on the second beamforming matrix. Each calculated tone may be transmitted in accordance with the wireless local area network communication protocol.

    Abstract: A first communication device generates a physical layer (PHY) preamble for a PHY data unit to be transmitted via a communication channel, the PHY data unit conforming to a first communication protocol. Generating the PHY preamble includes generating a legacy portion of the PHY preamble to include a legacy signal field, which is decodable by one or more second communication devices that conform to a second communication protocol to determine a duration of the PHY data unit. The PHY preamble is generated to also include a duplicate of the legacy signal field in the PHY preamble, wherein presence of the duplicate of the legacy signal field indicates to one or more third communication devices that conform to the first communication protocol that the PHY data unit conforms to the first communication protocol. The first communication device generates the PHY data unit to include the PHY preamble and a PHY payload.

    Abstract: A first communication device receives an uplink orthogonal frequency multiple access (OFDMA) transmission. The uplink OFDMA transmission includes respective transmissions from multiple second communication devices, and the respective transmissions from the multiple second communication devices include indications of respective acknowledgment policies corresponding to the respective transmissions from the multiple second communication devices. The first communication device generates one or more acknowledgment physical layer (PHY) data units to acknowledge at least a portion of the uplink OFDMA transmission, where the one or more acknowledgment PHY data units do not comply with at least one of the acknowledgment policies corresponding to the uplink OFDMA transmission. The first communication device transmits the one or more acknowledgment PHY data units to acknowledge the at least the portion of the uplink OFDMA transmission.

    Abstract: Embodiments described herein provides a system for detecting data received in a low power low rate (LPLR) data frame format. The system includes a receiver and control circuitry. The receiver is configured to receive a data frame comprising an LPLR preamble portion and an LPLR data portion following the LPLR preamble portion. The LPLR preamble portion and the LPLR data portion occupy a bandwidth that is less than an allowed bandwidth. The control circuitry is configured to determine a mode of the data frame based on whether the data frame has an additional portion, and detect a data field in the LPLR preamble portion from the data frame based on the mode of the data frame.

    Abstract: A communication device receives a signal during a backoff period of a backoff procedure, wherein the communication device is part of a first communication network. In response to determining that i) the signal is valid, ii) the signal is from another communication network, and iii) the power level of the signal does not meet a threshold that is higher than a default threshold, the communication device continues a count of a backoff timer during reception of the signal. In connection with comparing the power level of the signal to the threshold higher than the default threshold, the communication device sets a transmit power level to a reduced power level that is lower than a default power level. The communication device transmits at a transmit power level that is less than or equal to the reduced transmit power level in response to the backoff timer expiring.

    Abstract: A physical layer (PHY) preamble of a multi-user (MU) PHY data unit is generated. The PHY preamble is generated to include formatting information regarding the MU PHY data unit, including a field to be transmitted within a first individual communication channel among a plurality of individual communication channels that collectively span a bandwidth of a composite channel, each individual communication channel including a plurality of basic resource allocation (RA) units that collectively span a bandwidth of the individual communication channel. The field is generated to indicate one or more groupings of basic RA units, wherein at least one of the one or more groupings of basic RA which includes basic RA units of one or more other individual communication channels. A data portion of the MU PHY data unit is generated according to the formatting information in the PHY preamble, and the MU PHY data unit is generated to include the PHY preamble and the data portion.

    Abstract: A first training field is generated for a preamble of an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) data unit for transmission via a communication channel according to a first communication protocol. The first training field: i) conforms to a second communication protocol, and ii) has a first periodicity. A second training field is generated for the preamble. The second training field: i) conforms to the first communication protocol, and ii) has a second periodicity that corresponds to a selected transmission mode of the communication channel. The first training field is modulated using a first OFDM tone spacing, and the second training field is modulated using a second OFDM tone spacing, where the second tone spacing is narrower than the first tone spacing. The preamble is generated i) to include the second training field after the first training field, and ii) to indicate the selected transmission mode.
