Abstract:
Preferred placement of programming content is provided by a system and method to organize or sequence the display of a set of programmable content elements of an iTV application to a viewer, using business rules that describe the preferred placement conditions or criteria. Such criteria include brand, content owner, application location, current channel, current channel family, current channel category, time of day, content category, current program, current program genre, current iTV application, current content type, and/or subscriber and set-top box profile and behavior data. In one implementation, the present invention allows for managing the ‘shelf space’ within and for iTV applications.
Abstract:
A user interface allows for blending of television program choices from which a viewer may select, the blending representing options for linear and non-linear programming presented together within a single hierarchy of a designated category. The blending may further include managed content relevant to the designated category, where desired. Such designated categories may include television programming categories and/or content categories. The options for linear and non-linear programming may be presented together within a single screen of the user interface.
Abstract:
A method and system are disclosed for acquiring and transforming existing content (e.g., Hyper Text Markup Language HTML content) for display and execution on multiple platforms and architectures. In one embodiment, capture templates are created to harvest content from disparate content sources on multiple platforms. Data is extracted from the content from the disparate content sources using the created capture templates that drives extracting process. A standardized data stream is generated from the extracted data. The standardized data stream is provided for display on one or more different type of platforms.
Abstract:
A connector apparatus (1) for securing together two components (30, 40) such as a newel post (40) and a newel base (30) includes: a coupling means (4, 5) arranged to be secured within a first (40) of said two components; and a clamp means arranged to be disposed within a second (30) of said two components to be accessible by said coupling means and having two clamp parts (6, 7) assembleable to be disposed at different sides of said coupling means by a linkage means (28) adapted to link said two clamp parts (6,7) to releasably clamp one or both clamp parts to the coupling means (4,5) thereby to releasably secure the two components together wherein the linkage means (28) of the clamp means is adapted to be disposed adjacent the coupling means in use to permit insertion or release of the coupling means from the assembled clamp means without obstruction thereby.
Abstract:
A stair rail apparatus including a component (1) defining a channel with a base surface (2) at least part of which is shaped to project or extend into said channel, and a connector device (9) arranged to connect to said component via an abutment portion (8) thereof defining a recess shaped to receive said projecting or extending base surface part such that parts of the abutment portion within the recess abut the received projecting base surface part when the connector device is connected to the component in use.
Abstract:
An energy absorbing terminal is described that is made up of a plurality of cells partially defined by cambered panels made of thermoplastic or another suitable material. The panels are supported upon rectangular frames. The cambered portion of the panels provides a predetermined point of flexure for each panel and, thus, allows for energy dissipation during a collision. The stiffness of the crash cushion may be varied by altering material thicknesses and diaphragm spacing. In operation, a vehicle colliding in an end-on manner with the upstream end of the energy absorbing terminal will cause each of the cambered panels to bend angularly at its point of flexure and, thus, cause the cells to collapse axially. The use of thermoplastic, such as polyethylene results in a reversible, self-restoring collapse for the terminal, meaning that the terminal is reusable after most collisions.
Abstract:
Enhanced television content is processed and displayed by the execution of computer-readable instructions formatted in a binary interchange format (BIF) of an enhanced television BIF (EBIF) application via user agent at a client by interpreting the computer-readable instructions directly and without additional compilation. A key identifier may be used by the EBIF application to identify a content programming engine to locate and retrieve programmable content to be displayed at the client.

Abstract:
Spin trapping compositions in general have now been discovered to be effective in treating a variety of disorders, including disorders such as those arising from ischemia, infection, inflammation, exposure to radiation or cytotoxic compounds, not just of the central and peripheral nervous systems but of peripheral organ disease having a wide variety of etiologies. In the preferred embodiment, the compositions for treating tissue damage from ischemia contain PBN, or active derivatives thereof, in a suitable pharmaceutical carrier for intravenous oral, topical, or nasal/pulmonary administration. Other preferred spin-trapping agents include 5,5-dimethyl pyrrolidine N-oxide (DMPO), α-(4-pyridyl-1-oxide)-N-tert-butylnitrone (POBN), and (TEMPO) and spin-trapping derivatives, conjugates with drugs or targeting molecules, dimmers and cyclodextran polymers of PBN. Many different disorders can be treated using these compounds, including diseases or disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems, and disorders arising from ischemia, infection, inflammation, oxidation from exposure to radiation or cytotoxic compounds, as well as due to naturally occurring processes such as aging.
