Abstract:
A sensor for measuring material properties such as the relaxation modulus of a material in situ and a method of measuring material properties of a material are disclosed. The sensor may be substantially embedded in the material, and includes a deformable driver. When actuated, the deformable driver may create a stress in the adjacent material. The movement or deformation of the driver may be measured with a sensing device, for example a strain gage mounted on a surface thereof. The stress in the adjacent material may be measured with a second sensing device, for example a pressure sensor. The measured movement and stress over a predetermined period of time may he used to determine the relaxation modulus of the material.
Abstract:
Methods and materials involved in diagnosing SLE are provided herein. The methods and materials can be used to diagnose SLE and/or assess a mammal's susceptibility to develop SLE, based on the presence or absence of one or more IRF-5 variants.
Abstract:
An improved network intrusion detection and response system and method is disclosed for detecting and preventing misuse of network resources. More particularly, the system and method dynamically self-adjusts to changes in network activity using a plurality of alert levels wherein each successively higher alert level triggers a corresponding heightened security response from the networked computer being misused. These heightened alert levels are integrated on both the system (individual node) and the network level. The disclosed intrusion detection and response system is also implemented at low cost using currently-existing hardware and software (i.e., network computers).
Abstract:
A fracture fixation system is provided for a fracture of a head portion of a long bone which has subchondral bone defining a convex articular surface, and particularly the proximal humerus. The system includes both smooth pegs and pegs having a threaded shaft. The shaft of the threaded shaft pegs having both smooth and threaded portions. Threaded shaft pegs of different lengths all have the same length threaded portion, but different length smooth portions. A drill bit and depth gauge for use with the system are also provided. A method for drilling holes is also provided.
Abstract:
A method of dynamically controlling open hole pressure within a wellbore having a drill string positioned therein. The method comprising the steps of pumping a fluid down the drill string, into an annulus formed by the drill string and the interior of the wellbore, and then subsequently up the annulus to the surface of the ground; selectively applying wellhead pressure to the annulus through selectively pumping an additional quantity of the fluid or a quantity of a secondary fluid across the annulus; and, controlling the application of wellhead pressure applied to the annulus by controlling one, or both, of (a) the operation of a wellhead pressure control choke, and (b) the flow rate of the additional quantity of fluid or the secondary fluid pumped across the annulus, to thereby maintain open hole pressure within a desired range.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an automotive air filter assembly, in particular, an assembly which includes an air flow chamber portion and a liquid reservoir portion. The air flow portion includes a panel filter for filtering air flowing to an engine. The panel filter includes air filtration media and hydrocarbon absorption media to inhibit release of hydrocarbon vapours to the air on engine shut down. The air flow portion also may include resonance chambers for acoustic silencing purposes. The liquid reservoir portion can include a pump for delivery of fluid such as windshield washer fluid.
Abstract:
A super abrasive impregnated singulation saw blade is made by depositing grindable friable super abrasive particles while electro depositing or electroless depositing a strong binder metal such as nickel on a form or mandrel. The deposited super abrasive on the upper side protrudes from the side of the blade and are ground down to or near the binder metal to plannerize the sides of the saw blade and true and balance the saw blade. Post operations include electro polishing to expose equal amounts of super abrasive on the cutting edge or on all sides. Antifriction particles may be added in the side walls or deposited on the outside.
Abstract:
A process for funding construction or conversion of multi-unit real estate projects with a project loan credit enhanced by commitments to purchase individual units at discount prices with unit purchases requiring re-purchase contracts to give developer opportunity to profit from retail unit re-sales, comprising steps of obtaining unit purchase commitments with re-purchase contracts prior to construction start to guaranty project loan pay-off on completion, paying-off project loan upon completion from closing unit sale commitments, and re-selling those units at retail. This process eliminates risks of developer's loss and project loan foreclosure after construction completion and spreads those risks to one buyer per unit. Developers can more readily get 100% project loans, better provide unit loans and earlier closing to retail unit buyers, and thus build more projects not now fundable with project lender restrictions.
Abstract:
A tone arm assembly of the type employed in phonograph assemblies and the like, wherein the tone arm assembly is supported on a unipivot bearing assembly having a pivot point coinciding with an imaginary horizontal line extending through a center of gravity of the tone arm assembly, with the horizontal line extending perpendicular to a longitudinal axis extending through the tone arm assembly from a pick-up cartridge positioned at one end to a counterweight positioned at an opposite end thereof.
