Abstract: A shaped charge is configured to make a non-circular perforation into a casing. The shaped charge includes a case having a side wall that extends between an open top region and a base; an asymmetric initiation insert configured to fit within the case; an explosive material placed over the asymmetric initiation insert and in contact with the side wall of the case; and a liner placed over the explosive material, to hold the explosive material within the case. The asymmetric initiation insert has a body that includes first and second channels that extend from a bottom surface to a top surface of the body, so that a detonation at the bottom surface is directed to first and second initiation points, that correspond to the first and second channels.

Abstract: A perforating gun system with at least one gun. Each of the perforating guns have charges disposed in a gun carrier that are angled to the longitudinal axis of the gun to achieve a predetermined proppant transport profile into clusters within a stage in a well casing. The perforation tunnels may also have burrs on each side of the casing and acts in initially aiding proppant transport during fracture treatment. A method of tuning a cluster to achieve a desired fracturing treatment based on a feedback from another cluster includes selecting a hole diameter, a hole angle for creating an angled opening, a discharge coefficient, and a proppant efficiency. Moreover, a method of improving perforation charge efficiency.

Abstract: A gradient control method for a microstructure ultrafine crystallization of a deep cone copper shaped charge liner includes the steps of an extrusion forming, a recrystallization heat treatment, and a high-frequency percussion. A multi-pass extrusion is used in the extrusion forming, and in the high-frequency percussion step, a percussion speed is 30,000 to 40,000 times/min, a percussion force is 1600 N to 2000 N, and a number of percussion times is 1 to 3. The forming and surface quality control of the deep cone shaped charge liner are realized by the control technology of the present invention; the plasticity of the material is improved, and fine crystal structures are obtained; and an ultrafine grain gradient structure distributed along the thickness direction is formed in the inner surface of the shaped charge liner.

Abstract: A shaped charge includes a casing defining an interior volume, wherein the casing is prepared by sintering a metal powder or a mixture of metal powders; a liner located in the interior volume; and an explosive between the liner and the casing. A method for manufacturing a shaped charge casing includes the steps of mixing a metal powder or a metal powder mixture with a binder to form a pre-mix; pressing the pre-mix in a mold to form a casing green body; heating the casing green body to a first temperature to vaporize the binder; raising the temperature to a second temperature in an inert or reducing atmosphere to sinter the metal powder or the metal powder mixture to produce the shaped charge casing.
