Abstract: Image forming devices and methods of obtaining medication information are described. According to one aspect, an image forming device includes: an input device configured to receive input information regarding a medication prescription for an individual; an interface adapted to communicate with a network external of the image forming device; and processing circuitry coupled with the input device and the interface and configured to receive the input information regarding the medication prescription from the input device and to forward a search request for a medication identified within the medication prescription to the interface for application to the network, and wherein the interface is configured to receive results of the search request from the network comprising search information regarding the medication; and an image engine coupled with the processing circuitry and configured to form a hard image upon media including the search information received from the network.

Abstract: An electronic writing instrument includes a finger pad that supports a user's finger when the user is using the writing instrument. The user's finger rests on the finger pad in such a way that a fingerprint of the user's finger can be scanned by a fingerprint scanner located in the writing instrument to obtain fingerprint data. The fingerprint data is transmitted to a computing device where the fingerprint data is converted into a private key code. Alternatively, the fingerprint data is converted into the private key code in the writing instrument and the private key code is transmitted to the computing device. The transmission may be through a wired or wireless link. The private key code is used to create a public key code, which is incorporated into an electronic signature. The electronic signature may then be affixed to an electronic document to verify that the user signed the document.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for locating a network device relative to other network devices are useful for the management of wireless computing networks. Signal strength in a wireless network is indicative of a distance between a transmitting device and a receiving device. Through use of triangulation of the received signals at multiple receiving devices, the relative location of the transmitting device can be determined. Methods of refining the estimation of the expected location of the transmitting device are further provided. Defining an absolute location for at least one of the devices will permit determining the absolute location of the remaining devices based on these relative locations. Locating network devices relative to each other facilitates identifying a closest available resource within the network.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for suggesting upgrades in response to printer errors. In one embodiment, a printer contains an error detecting device and an embedded Web server in communication with a global computer network. If printer errors are detected, error messages are generated. Each error message is conveyed through the embedded Web server to an external computer. The external computer may receive error information conveyed by a large number of printers, which can optionally be monitored and analyzed. Information on a selection of printer upgrades is maintained in a memory of the external computer. The external computer compares each error message received to this selection, if an upgrade corresponding to an error message is available, the system conveys a message detailing the availability of the upgrade.
