Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a UE transmits, at a first time during a measurement window for positioning purposes, a first uplink reference signal in accordance with a first timing adjustment parameter, wherein the first time is offset from a downlink frame time of a base station by an amount of the first timing adjustment parameter, determines whether to use a second timing adjustment parameter, transmits, in response to the determination to use the second timing adjustment parameter, at a second time during the measurement window, a second uplink reference signal in accordance with a second timing adjustment parameter, wherein the second time is offset from the downlink frame time of the base station by an amount of the second timing adjustment parameter, and transmits a report indicating that the second timing adjustment parameter has been applied to at least the second uplink reference signal.

Abstract: An entity in a wireless network is configured to increase transmission of a positioning reference signal (PRS) at each of a plurality of transmitters, where the increase in transmission of PRS at each of the plurality of transmitters is coordinated to avoid interference to or from non-PRS transmission in the wireless network. The increase in the transmission of PRS may be performed by a server, such as a location management function (LMF) or location management component (LMC), a base station, such as a gNB, ng-eNB, or eNB, or by a combination of the server and base station. The entity may determine the increase in transmission of the PRS in response to location requests for a plurality of user equipments (UEs), notification reports from a plurality of base stations, or requests for increased PRS from a plurality of UEs.

Abstract: Positioning assistance data (PAD) may be partitioned into positioning System Information Blocks (posSIBs) and periodically broadcast by a base station. A posSIB or scheduling information for a posSIB may include a validity time and a validity tag that indicates whether the PAD for a posSIB has changed. A user equipment (UE) may receive a posSIB comprising PAD and the validity time and the validity tag for the posSIB. The UE may then wait until the validity time expires and/or the validity tag in the scheduling information indicates a change of PAD before receiving a new instance of the posSIB. The validity time and validity tag may both be included in the posSIB, in which case the UE may receive the posSIB and then look at the validity tag to determine whether to decode and process the PAD.

Abstract: Techniques for supporting positioning for a terminal (sometimes referred to herein as a target device) in a wireless network are described. In an aspect, positioning for a target device includes receiving a Request Location Information message that indicates at least one positioning method from a plurality of supported positioning methods. The Request Location Information message comprises common parameters that are applicable to all positioning methods indicated in the Request Location Information message. The common parameters comprise a quality-of-service (QoS), an indication of whether periodic location information is requested, an indication of whether triggered location information is requested, or any combination thereof. Positioning is performed in response to the Request Location Information message and can include determining a location estimate for a location of the target device.

In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.
