摘要： A developing device used with an image forming apparatus has a driving shaft with a rotating force applying portion, and a movable member on which the developing device is mountable. The developing device includes a developing roller and a coupling member for transmitting a rotating force to the developing roller. The coupling member includes a rotating force receiving portion and a rotating force transmitting portion for transmitting a force received through the rotating force receiving portion to the developing roller. The coupling member can be in a rotational force transmitting angular position, a pre-engagement angular position, and a disengaging angular position. In response to movement of the movable member the coupling member moves from the pre-engagement angular position to the rotational force transmitting angular position, and by moving from the rotational force transmitting angular position to the disengaging angular position the coupling member is disengaged from the driving shaft.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a development device including a development roller and a driving force receiving member, a movable member configured to move the development device between a development position and a retracting position, a first driving force transmission member configured to transmit a driving force to the movable member, a second driving force transmission member configured to engage with the driving force receiving member and transmit the driving force to the driving force receiving member, and a controller configured to perform drive control for the first driving force transmission member based on a temperature detected by a sensor. If α1 represents acceleration of the development device in a case where the temperature is T1 and the driving force receiving member disengages from the second driving force transmission member and α2 represents acceleration of the development device in a case where the temperature is T2 and the driving force receiving member disengages from the second driving force transmission member, the controller performs the drive control for the first driving force transmission member so as to satisfy a relationship α1≦α2 when T1≦T2.

The process cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum having a photosensitive layer at a peripheral surface thereof, with the electrophotographic photosensitive drum being rotatable about an axis thereof. The process cartridge also includes a coupling member to receive a rotational force for rotating the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, with the coupling member capable of taking a rotational force transmitting angular position for transmitting the rotational force to the electrophotographic photosensitive drum. The coupling member is also capable of taking a disengaging angular position in which the coupling member is inclined away from the rotational force transmitting angular position.

摘要： A developing device is usable with an electrophotographic image forming apparatus including a shaft and a rotary unit mounting the device. When mounted, the device is movable perpendicular to a shaft axial direction in response to movement of the rotary unit and the shaft is not movable in that direction. The device includes a developing roller that contacts and separates from a drum in response to movement of the rotary unit, and a coupler transmitting a rotating force to the roller. The coupler includes a portion engaging the shaft to receive a rotating force and a portion transmitting the received rotating force to the roller. The coupler takes a first position for transmitting the rotational force to the roller, a position before the coupler engages the shaft and is inclined away from the first position, and a position for the disengagement of the coupler and the shaft.

The developing device develops an electrostatic image formed on the image carrier by causing the developer to fly from the developer carrier to the image carrier upon an application of an alternating-current bias to the developer carrier. Noise produced by the development-noise control member vibrated by an oscillating electric field of the alternating-current bias is smaller than a noise produced by the developer flying control member vibrated by the oscillating electric field.
