    Abstract: Methods and systems for detecting expiration time of an article include receiving the article for a pre-planned event. The article is analyzed to identify one or more attributes. The article is matched to an event identifier using the article attributes. The event identifier is pre-defined and stored in an event database. The event identifier acts as an index to the event database for obtaining event characteristics of the pre-planned event. The article attributes are examined to identify event phase indicators that correlate to a specific event phase of the pre-planned event. The expiration time of the article is computed based on the specific event phase identified for the pre-planned event. The expiration time is used to rank the article and for considering assigning the article to a content pool of articles that is selected for publishing for the specific event phase of the pre-planned event.

    Abstract: Methods, systems and programming for predicting search results quality. In one example, a search query is received from a user. A plurality of search results are obtained from a content source based on the search query. The plurality of search results are ranked based on their relevance scores with respect to the search query. A distribution of the relevance scores of the plurality of search results is normalized in each position of the ranking. A metric of the content source is computed based on the normalized distribution of the relevance scores. The metric indicates a relevance between the plurality of search results and the search query.

    Abstract: One or more computing devices, systems, and/or methods for hosting virtual chat rooms of a chat room are provided. For example, users (e.g., 3,000 users) may access video interfaces, hosting a video, and chat room interfaces associated with a chat room for the video (e.g., users may access a news website providing a live stream of a current event along with a chat room for discussing the live stream). Signals of the users (e.g., a user location, age, account profile information, prior chat room message behavior, etc.) are evaluated to identify user properties (e.g., the user is an active participant within chat rooms). The chat room may be sharded into a set of virtual chat rooms into which users are assigned based upon the user properties (e.g., 300 virtual chat rooms of 100 users each). In this way, users may have more meaningful interactions within the smaller virtual chat rooms.

    Abstract: Techniques are provided for improving the accuracy of analytics on big data using sketches and fixed-size buckets. In a technique for enhancing a unique count (cardinality) estimate of a large data set, a request for a cardinality estimate for the large data set is received. An initial cardinality estimate is determined using a sketch or a fixed-size bucket. If the initial cardinality estimate is within a range where the initial estimate could be further enhanced, the initial estimate is used for a lookup into a lookup table. Based on retrieved values from the lookup table and the initial estimate, an enhanced cardinality estimate is calculated.

In some embodiments, buyers are offered incentives, such as a discounted price, in exchange for a reduced time period within which a price guarantee policy is redeemable.
