Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for multiplexing channel state information (CSI) reference signals (CSI-RSs) and synchronization signals in wireless communications systems operating according to new radio (NR), e.g., 5th generation (5G), techniques. An exemplary method includes sampling subcarriers of a synchronization signal (SS) block based on a frequency density of channel state information (CSI) reference signals (CSI-RSs) multiplexed in a symbol period with the SS block, and performing at least one of: measuring at least one of reference signal received power (RSRP) or CSI, based on the sampled subcarriers and the CSI-RSs, or reporting at least one of the RSRP or the CSI, based on the sampled subcarriers and the CSI-RSs.

An exemplary method generally includes receiving a plurality of beams from a base station in a plurality of coarse directions, determining, based on the plurality of beams, a first spatial colocation parameter, transmitting an indication of a coarse direction associated with a beam having a highest receive strength of the plurality of beams, receiving a plurality of second beams from the base station based on the indication, the plurality of second beams having a narrower beam width than the plurality of beams and covering a beam width of the beam associated with the indicated coarse direction, determining, based on the plurality of second beams, a second spatial colocation parameter, transmitting an indication of the second beam having a highest receive strength, and refining at least one of the first or second spatial colocation parameters.

Abstract: In order to maintain flexible system bandwidth and a flexible center frequency, without requiring a cyclic prefix or guard interval, a transmitter apparatus transmits a reference signal based on a single carrier waveform having a mixed symbol structure, in reference signal symbols using at least one of a cyclic prefix and a guard interval and transmits data based on the single carrier waveform without the cyclic prefix or the guard interval. The data may be based on input data processed using overlapping FFT windows, and an amount of overlap between the FFT windows may be configurable by the transmitter or the receiver. An apparatus receiving the downlink transmission comprising data based on a single carrier waveform may process the data based on overlapping FFT windows.
