Abstract:
A high-speed steel flywheel for a flywheel uninterruptible power is constructed by stacking several unpierced steel discs together. Each disc is heat treated prior to assembly. Thin axial thickness of each disc enables complete rapid quenching to attain a fully hardened condition and development of high tensile strength. The individual discs are machined or ground to shape and assembled to form an axially thicker flywheel capable of storing several kilowatts of energy or more. The discs are attached together by welding, brazing, soldiering, bonding or an interference assembly. The stacked disc configuration minimizes chances of catastrophic failure of the flywheel due to initiation of a crack in a single disc by restricting axial crack propagation to that single disc, and supporting the cracked disc by one or more adjacent discs until the flywheel can be safely decelerated.
Abstract:
A device for actuating a mechanism for ejecting a data carrier, particularly a DVD or CD, from a drive in a housing is provided. The drive comprises an actuator that is arranged within a portion of an area at the drive, wherein an operating element is provided at the housing, and wherein the operating element is coupled to the actuator in such a way that a force exerted upon the operating element is transmitted on the entire said area at the drive such that an operation of the operating element results in the actuation of the actuator regardless of in which portion of said area the actuator is located.

A ratcheting tool includes a handle and a head with a compartment. A drive member includes a first end extended beyond the compartment, a second end extended beyond the compartment, and a gear wheel formed between the first end and the second end. The gear wheel is rotatably mounted in the compartment and includes a toothed outer periphery. A pawl is mounted in the compartment and includes a toothed side facing the gear wheel teeth. The toothed side of the pawl includes a first teeth portion having a first center of curvature and a second teeth portion having a second center of curvature located at a position different from the first center of curvature.
Abstract:
A stroke adjusting attachment for bicycles or the like enables selective changing of the diameter of the orbit which is traveled by a foot pedal to adapt a particular bicycle to persons having different leg lengths or who may have physical impairments which limit foot movement. The pedal is fastened to the attachment rather than being directly secured to a crank arm of the bicycle in the conventional manner. A track member is secured to the bicycle crank arm and the pedal is fastened to a slider which is travelable to any of a plurality of different locations along the track member. Blades extend from the track member adjacent to opposite surfaces of the crank arm thereby maintaining the attachment in a fixed orientation relative to the crank arm. A particular attachment of this form can be fitted onto a variety of crank arms of different sizes and shapes.
Abstract:
A brake cable tension monitoring assembly and method for use with a brake actuator installed in an operative position in a motor vehicle. The tension monitoring assembly for sensing tension applied to at least one brake cable connected to a brake actuator installed in an operative position in a vehicle. The brake actuator including a lever movable in applying and releasing directions and the brake actuator being constructed such that tensioning of the cable forces the lever in the releasing direction. The monitoring assembly including a sensing device including a sensor, the sensing device being removably positioned between the lever and a surface and constructed and arranged to sense the movement of the lever in the releasing direction when the cable is being tensioned while the sensing device directly contacts the lever and the surface. The sensing device includes an element biased by a resilient member such that the sensor is activated upon movement of the element into contact with the sensor, while the element moves against the resilient member.
Abstract:
A switchable drag lever (1) of a valve timing mechanism of an internal combustion engine is proposed. The said switchable drag lever (1) has an outer lever (2), an inner lever (5) extending in the cut-out (3) of the said outer lever (2) between its side walls (4). The drag lever (1) has a rest (9) for a gas exchange valve on an underside (7) at one end (8) and a pivoting bearing (11) for a supporting element at the other end (10). The levers (2, 5) extend at the end (8) on a common pin (12). Receptacles (13, 14) for a coupling means are provided which extend longitudinally at the end (10) facing away from the pin (12) and are aligned with respect to one another in the cam base circle, which coupling means can be displaced for coupling in sections in or below the receptacle (14, 13) which lies opposite. The levers (2, 5) have cam contact faces (17, 18) on their upper sides (15, 16). A segment-like projection (19) protrudes longitudinally into the cut-out (3) from the outer lever (2) in the region of its end (10) which faces away from the pin (12), the bottom face (20) of the said segment-like projection (19) bearing against a complementary stop piece (21) of the adjacent upper side (16) of a pivoting-away end (22) of the inner lever (5) in the coupling case. Alignment of the receptacles (10a, 10b) is therefore provided in a simple way for the coupling case.
Abstract:
A device for high precision generation and measurement of forces (both pressure and tension) and displacements along a single axis includes a shaft for transferring the forces along an axis X. At least two biased first leaf springs are attached to the shaft and clamped at each end. The device has great rigidity in an axis Y perpendicular to the axis X in which the forces and displacements are generated.

An adjustment device includes a lifting mechanism having a lifting arm articulated to a component of a stationary supporting structure for moving the component between two end positions. A rotary drive mechanism has an output member which is linked to the lifting arm. In order to completely, or at least partially, absorb a load moment exerted during movement of the component, at least one stationary support element is associated to the rotary drive mechanism.
Abstract:
A brake handle for a train or other vehicle has a grip that may be grasped by a human operator, a shaft that is fastened to the grip, a hub that is fastened to the shaft and is rotated by the shaft, a mounting block that is supported by the hub for rotating movement, and a switch. The switch has a switch operator (such as a board provided with metal traces) supported by the hub and a switch contact supported by the mounting block.
