摘要:
An automotive transmission with a hydraulic torque converter and a pedal-operated master clutch between that converter and a gear shifter includes an acceleration inhibitor which is activated in the disengaged position of the clutch and in a drive position of a selector lever controlling the gear shifter to prevent the driver from speeding up the engine by stepping on the gas pedal preparatorily to starting the vehicle by letting in the master clutch. The torque converter is provided with a bypass clutch which, when operated, disables the acceleration inhibitor.

This disclosure relates to clutches for motor vehicles, and more particularly to a clutch actuating system having means for establishing initial free play without using external gauges. A clutch in accordance with this invention may have a clutch pedal, a clutch release lever and a Bowden wire interconnecting the pedal and the lever. The tubular housing or sheath portion of the Bowden wire has one of its ends secured by a pair of jam nuts to the vehicle body adjacent to the clutch pedal. The other end of the sheath is secured to a stationary member adjacent the clutch release lever by a jan nut and a unique frangible jam nut. The frangible nut has a threaded nut portion and a frangible collar that extends axially from the threaded portion. During initial installation of the clutch actuating mechanism, the jam nuts are tightened to remove all slack in the system and to bring the release fingers of the pressure plate assembly into firm contact with the clutch release bearing. The jam nut that is paired with the frangible nut is tightened until pressure on the collar causes it to fracture and separate from the threaded portion. The gap between the two nuts left by the separated collar is closed by additional tightening of the regular nut. The collar of the special jam nut is dimensioned so that upon its fracture and tightening of the nut paired with it, a proper predetermined amount of initial free play is established in the system.

A change speed device for power transmission, including, in one form, parallel input drive and output driven shafts, each having preferably a plurality of axially spaced, different diameter interengageable members preferably in the form of gears and forming part of the drive train, and for providing various drive speeds thereof. The input or drive gears are fixed to rotate with the input shaft at all times when it rotates, while the driven gears are mounted for idle rotation on the output shaft, responsive to intermeshed drive by the drive gears, and the driven gears are only selected normally one at a time to be interconnected or frictionally coupled to the output shaft to impart output rotation to the driven output shaft from the input drive shaft. A novel shifter device utilizing circumferentially spaced, axially directed, laterally notched, slide members to control roller or ball members which are carried in transverse grooves on the output shaft and interposed between the shaft and driven gears thereon, is embodied therewith to selectively align preselected notch portions of the laterally notched slide members with a predetermined one or set of the transverse grooves, to permit the rollers to move into said lateral notches where there the radial distance between the I.D. of the selected driven gear and the depth of the groove is lessened or less than the diameter or effective radial dimension of the roller or ball member, to thereby form a servo-type camming frictional interengaging or coupling action between the selected change-speed gear and the output shaft, responsive to continuing relative rotation of the drive and driven gears. When the notches and transverse grooves are non-aligned, a neutral condition exists for the power transmission. The shifter comprises separate circumferentially spaced notched slides which seat in or between complementally formed splines on the output shaft, which slides are collectively attached to and actuated by a common actuator collar and suitable linkage mechanism.

A power shift mechanism for causing a clutch to be disengaged by the power of the shaft of the transmission. In other words the mechanism is shifted out of gear under its own power and with little effort on the part of the operator. The mechanism is particularly useful in clutching arrangements for feed rolls of a forage harvester for example, when the rolls become clogged with an excess or slug of material and it is otherwise difficult to shift the clutch out of engagement. The mechanism includes a shifting assembly which first acts to shift a cam means out of the way to a position that permits the shiftable clutching part to be engaged and reverse feed roll direction, and then acts to permit the cam means to cause the shiftable part of the clutch to be forcibly disengaged due to the power of the shaft on which it is splined.

839,021. Clutches; change-speed gears. GETRAG GETRIEBEUND ZAHNRADFABRIK G.m.b.H. May 24, 1957 [May 28, 1956; Aug. 14, 1956], No. 16561/57. Class 80 (2). In a change-speed gear having locking members 3, 4 moved radially by an axially-shiftable member 1, an intermediate axially-movable member 15 holds the locking members 3, 4 under the periphery of the gear shaft 2 when neither member 3 nor 4 is engaged, and on radial movement of one locking member into the engaging position presses the other locking member radially inwards. In a four-speed gear having gears 29, 30 rigid with the input shaft 2 and gears 25, 26 rotatable thereon, the gears 25, 26 are selectively engaged with the shaft 2 by balls 3, 4 moved radially by a selector shaft 1. An intermediate member 15 which may comprise a series of axially-movable pins, as shown, or an axially movable sleeve beveiled at the ends, holds the balls 3, 4 below the surface of the shaft 2 when neither gear is engaged, and presses one series of balls radially inwards out of engagement when the other set of balls is moved radially outwards by the selector shaft 1 to engage a gear. Axial movement of the shaft 1 is provided by stationary magnets 38, 39. The pins 15 may be surrounded with bearing-rings 43 and rollers 44 to provide a bearing for the gears 25, 26. A similar arrangement is provided on the output shaft 2 1 . The ball pockets may be made circumferentially as large as practicable to provide easy and rapid engagement of the balls.
