摘要： Disclosed herein are various forms of hybrid baseball bats comprising a wood shell having a radial wall and an outer radial surface profile defining a baseball bat. The wood shell having a central core with a central surface thereon extending from a distal end of the bat. The central surface being profiled with a taper that in some embodiments extends entirely through to the proximal end. A fibrous construct is housed in the central core and infiltrated with an epoxy resin. In some forms, the fibrous construct is in the form of a sleeve. Disclosed are various manufacturing techniques for manufacturing hybrid baseball bats including a low pressure bladder method, a high pressure bladder method, and a centrifugal force method.

摘要： A laminated wood ball bat and a method of making the same. The bat is constructed of a plurality of thin wood veneer strips extending longitudinally in generally parallel relation throughout the length of the bat and are bonded together throughout their facing surfaces. The method of forming the bat includes the steps of placing large sheets of thin wood veneer in stacked relation in the cavity of a press with glue being applied to the contacting surfaces of the stacked sheets of veneer. The press exerts pressure on the veneer sheets to densify and compress the stacked veneer sheets while the glue is cured to form a large laminated panel having a thickness of half bat billets. One surface of each half bat billet panel is optionally grooved to form a core in the hitting zone to optionally receive material less dense or more dense than the wood veneer and a recess in the handle portion to receive a reinforcing rod. Two half bat billet panels are placed in a press cavity with the facing surfaces being glue coated to form a laminated full thickness bat billet panel which is then cut into substantially identical square bat billets. The laminated square, cured bat billets are formed into the desired bat configuration in a lathe and a final finish is applied.

摘要： A baseball bat or the like comprises a tube formed with an outer layer of cellulose material covering a layer of fiber reinforced resin, with the tube layers being impregnated with and bonded to one another with a cured resin. The outer layer of the bat consists of one or more strips or sheets of cellulose material such as paper or wood. Cellulose fibers tend to stretch when deformed by the ball impact so as to spread the impact over a number of fibers and exhibit a high compressive strength. Therefore, they may be effectively utilized as the outer layer of the bat. The tube preferably has a foam core including a central cavity lined with a layer of fiber reinforced resin, said core having sufficient resiliency to allow the tube to resiliently deform during impact with a baseball. Bat performance may further be improved by adding an internal layer of fiber reinforced resin to the interior of the foamed core. The product is formed by molding over a form which may constitute the cavitied foam core or, alternatively, a forming mandrel which is removed after the resin is cured. The cavity may be filled with a material which is less dense than the core.
