    摘要: The apparatus of the present invention provides a broaching machine configured to produce an internal gear member. The broaching machine includes a broaching tool defining a central axis. The broaching tool includes a first set of broaching teeth configured to cut only a first flank portion of a plurality of gear teeth; and a second set of broaching teeth configured to cut only a second flank portion of the plurality of gear teeth. The plurality of gear teeth are formed such that the first and second flank portions of each gear tooth are tapered between a first end portion and a second end portion. The broaching machine also includes a motor configured to rotate the broaching tool about the central axis at a selectable rate and in a selectable direction. A corresponding method for producing an internal gear member is also provided.

In the throw-away tip, cutting edges are formed at intersecting ridgeline parts between a pair of oppositely disposed long side faces of a substantially trapezoidal flat-plate-shaped tip body, and upper and lower faces of the tip body. A thickness direction of the tip body is approximately aligned with a radial direction of the cutter body to provide curved edges formed in acute corner parts of the tip body for cutting. The tip is mounted on a second tip mounting seat of the pin mirror cutter such that the thickness direction of the tip body is approximately aligned with an axial direction of the cutter body to provide curved edges formed in obtuse corner parts of the tip body for cutting.

    摘要: Rifling for the barrel of a firearm includes a first gain twist region for increasing the rotational velocity of a bullet as it travels from the breech towards the muzzle end of the barrel, and a second region in which the rifling is of a constant twist so that the bullet exits the muzzle end of the barrel at a constant rotational velocity. The bore defined in the barrel is tapered in a direction from the breech end to the muzzle end so that the diameter of the muzzle opening of the barrel is less than the diameter of the breech opening. The angle of the rifling is variable with the rate of the gain twist of the rifling. The gain twist of the rifling in the barrel is formed by a button, preferably having a sinusoidal shaped periphery, which is pulled through the barrel during the manufacturing process. The smooth periphery of the button prevents shredding of the barrel when the button is twisted at different speeds to provide the variable gain twist of the rifling in different sections of the barrel. In a further aspect of the invention, an apparatus is provided for selectively varying the rotational speed of the button to form the desired gain twist of the rifling during manufacture of the barrel.

    摘要: A broaching tool is provided with at least nine cutting tool edges arranged at its circumference. The cutting tool edges cover only a certain sector along the circumference of a tool disk while leaving another sector between a first and last cutting tool edge free of cutting tool edges. This feature enables moving a tool axially relative to a work piece without first moving the tool radially relative to the work piece. Further, the tool can be moved radially without damage. These movements are performed when the sector without cutting tool edges faces the work piece. This sector without cutting tool edges has an opening angle of less than 180.degree. and it provides a spacing and free space relative to a work piece. Thus, work piece surfaces that have been machined by the cutting edges, are free of these cutting edges if and when the other sector faces the work piece.

    摘要: An apparatus is provided for machining a flat surface on a workpiece and comprises an annular frame on which an annular wheel is rotatably mounted around a predetermined axis of rotation. A plurality of circumferentially spaced cutting members are secured to one axial surface of the wheel and preferably these cutting members are broaching tools. At least one, and preferably a plurality of circumferentially spaced workpiece holding fixtures are also mounted to the frame so that each fixture is open to, spaced from and axially aligned with said axial surface of said wheel. Each fixture can hold one workpiece with the surface to be machined adjacent the axial surface of the wheel with the cutting members. The wheel is continuously rotatably driven by a suitable motor at a high rotational speed, i.e. in excess of 200 surface feet/minute, while a feed unit associated with each fixture selectively axially moves its fixture with its workpiece towards the wheel, i.e. in the direction of the stock to be removed whereupon the cutting members engage and machine the desired workpiece surface. Thus, multiple workpieces can be simultaneously machined at high speeds limited only by the strength of the wheel and the power of the motor. In one form of the invention, the workpiece is incrementally fed toward the wheel during each wheel revolution thus incrementally removing stock from the workpiece.
