A manager device is elected for example based on highest compared received signal strength amongst the devices to manage the distributed data. The manager election can by dynamically up-dated to compensate for changes in the network parameter for example devices entering or leaving the network, or physical relocation of the devices within the network. In addition, the ad hoc network can communicate with a fixed infrastructure, the fixed infrastructure maintaining a table identifying a gateway device for direct communication with the fixed infrastructure, allowing communication with a mobile device within the ad hoc network. Yet further the ad hoc network can provide a communications route between two remote fixed infrastructures.

The pooled bandwidth is commoditized by making available tradeable bandwidth segments having negotiable sizes and characteristics. A transaction between a buyer and a seller for at least one bandwidth segment is initiated, wherein the seller delivers to the buyer bandwidth between the first and second pooling points pursuant to agreed upon terms. The delivered bandwidth is monitored to ensure that the bandwidth is delivered according to the agreed upon terms. A system includes a first pooling point, a second pooling point, a service provisioning system, a cross connection switch, and a quality of service manager. The second pooling point is coupled to the first pooling point and bandwidth is pooled between the first and second pooling points. The pooled bandwidth is commoditized by making available tradeable bandwidth segments having a negotiable size and a determinable quality of service. The service provisioning system is coupled to at least on of the first and second pooling points, and the service provisioning system facilitates a transaction between a buyer and a seller for bandwidth at a contracted for quality of service. The cross connection switch is coupled to at least one of the first and second pooling points, and the cross connection switch executes the transaction between the buyer and seller by enabling delivery of bandwidth between the first and second pooling points at the contracted for quality of service. The quality of service manager is coupled to at least one of the first and second pooling points, and the quality of service manager monitors the delivered bandwidth to ensure that the contracted for quality of service is delivered.

Then STP engine then determines that a non-LAG link between the networking device and the second VLT device has caused the redesignation of the second virtual port as an alternate port and the non-LAG port as a root port, and swaps the designations of the second virtual port and the non-LAG port.

The control unit detects one or more first connectivity settings of the management port, exchanges the first connectivity settings with the other switches using at least one of the stacking ports, exchanges second connectivity settings for the other switches using the stacking ports, and elects a master switch for the stacked switch based on the first and second connectivity settings. In some embodiments, the control unit further receives a first management configuration from the management system, exchanges the first management configuration with the other switches, exchanges second management configurations of the other switches, and further elects the master switch based on the first and second management configurations.
