A optical modulating apparatus includes a splitter/combiner structured to split an intensity modulation signal inputted into a first input terminal into a first electric signal having an in-phase relationship with that of the intensity modulation signal and second electric signal having an inverse phase relationship therewith, split a phase modulation signal inputted into a second input terminal into a third electric signal having an in-phase relationship with that of the phase modulation signal an also a fourth electric signal having an in-phase relationship therewith, combine the first electric signal with the fourth electric signal to thereby output a first combined signal, and combine the second electric signal with the third electric signal to thereby output a second combined signal; and an optical modulating means structured to split a light carrier wave entered from a light source into two light carrier waves, and to optically modulate the two sets of the split light carrier waves by using the first combined signal and the second combined signal derived from the splitter/combiner, and combine the two phase-modulated above said light carrier waves to output an optical modulation signal.

    摘要: An optical transmission and reception system in which a plurality of tributary signals are converted into multilevel modulated light for transmission and reception. An apparatus for transmitting multilevel modulated light includes: FECs which perform error correction processing including addition of a tributary identifier; and a GEAR BOX which performs rate conversion on the processed signals. An apparatus for receiving multilevel modulated light includes: a 20G DQPSK REC which separates received multilevel modulated light into received tributary signals and outputs the signals to respective output systems; the GEAR BOX which performs rate conversion on the received tributary signals; the FECs which extract tributary identifiers from the received tributary signals; a TIM which compares tributary identifiers defined for the respective output systems in advance with the tributary identifies extracted; and a tributary selector which gives an instruction to change correspondence between the received tributary signals and the output systems if the result of comparison is a mismatch.

    摘要: An optical repeating system includes an optical transmitter and a plurality of optical amplifying repeaters. The optical transmitter specifies a part or all of the optical amplifying repeaters, and transmits a supervisory command to the specified optical amplifying repeaters as a first sub-signal via an uplink or downlink optical transmission line. The supervisory command is a command to supervise internal circuits of the optical amplifying repeaters. Receiving the supervisory command addressed thereto via the uplink or downlink optical transmission line, the optical amplifying repeaters each transmit a supervisory signal indicating a supervisory result corresponding to the supervisory command to optical receivers via the uplink and downlink optical transmission lines as a second sub-signal. The optical system can reduce the time take to acquire the supervisory information about the plurality of the optical amplifying repeaters.

The optical signal switching unit has input waveguides and output waveguides, optical switches for switching the course of each optical signal, located at intersections between the waveguides and outputting the optical signal to the output waveguides. This optical signal switching unit includes optical switches and a switch state control part controlling the states of the optical switches, thereby controlling formation of the output optical signal. The optical switches take binary states including a first route state providing the optical signal with a first course and a second course state providing the optical signal with a second course, and an intermediate state including part of both of the first and second course states.
