Abstract: Techniques are provided for enabling on-demand positioning reference signals (PRS) with a user equipment (UE). An example method for determining a location of a mobile device includes sending a request for downlink positioning reference signals to a network server, where the request includes positioning reference signal configuration information, receiving assistance data based on the positioning reference signal configuration information, measuring one or more downlink positioning reference signals based at least in part on the positioning reference signal configuration information, and determining a location of the mobile device based at least on part on the measurements obtained from the one or more downlink positioning reference signals and the assistance data.

In an aspect, a network entity determines whether a source reference signal transmitted from a first transmission-reception point (TRP) is a quasi-collocation (QCL) source of a target reference signal transmitted from a second TRP based, at least in part, on a first bandwidth (BW) portion occupied by the source reference signal and a second BW portion occupied by the target reference signal, the first BW portion having a first start frequency and a first BW size and the second BW portion having a second start frequency and a second BW size, and configures a user equipment (UE) with the source reference signal as the QCL source of the target reference signal when it is so determined.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) engaged in a positioning session with a plurality of transmission-reception points (TRPs) receives a downlink positioning reference signal (DL-PRS) configuration specifying one or more DL-PRS resource sets of a DL-PRS instance, wherein all DL-PRS resources of the one or more DL-PRS resource sets of the DL-PRS instance are scheduled within a time window, and receives an uplink PRS (UL-PRS) configuration specifying one or more UL-PRS resource sets, wherein all of the one or more UL-PRS resources are scheduled within the time window. The UE may perform, during the time window, measurements of DL-PRS transmissions on one or more DL-PRS resources of the one or more DL-PRS resource sets, and transmit, during the time window, at least one UL-PRS on the one or more UL-PRS resources.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a distance (or range) between a first wireless entity and a second wireless entity. In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.

Abstract: A RAN location server function (e.g. for 5G New Radio), referred to as Location Management Component (LMC), may be included in a gNB and connected to a gNB Central Unit (gNB-CU). The gNB-CU may receive a location request for a UE (e.g. from an AMF) and may initiate a location session for the UE, including selecting an LMC for the location session. The gNB-CU may handover the UE to a new serving gNB during the location session. The LMC for the location session may then remain unchanged after the handover or may be changed to a new LMC to suit the new serving gNB. The location session may then continue using the original LMC if not changed or the new LMC if changed.

In an aspect, a UE transmits, at a first time during a measurement window for positioning purposes, a first uplink reference signal in accordance with a first timing adjustment parameter, wherein the first time is offset from a downlink frame time of a base station by an amount of the first timing adjustment parameter, determines whether to use a second timing adjustment parameter, transmits, in response to the determination to use the second timing adjustment parameter, at a second time during the measurement window, a second uplink reference signal in accordance with a second timing adjustment parameter, wherein the second time is offset from the downlink frame time of the base station by an amount of the second timing adjustment parameter, and transmits a report indicating that the second timing adjustment parameter has been applied to at least the second uplink reference signal.
