    Abstract: Techniques for managing uplink communication on a wireless communication medium are disclosed. An access point may transmit and an access terminal may receive an Uplink Control Information (UCI) payload indicator over a downlink channel instructing an access terminal to configure a UCI payload. The access terminal may then transmit and the access point may then receive UCI including the configured UCI payload over an uplink channel in response to the UCI payload indicator.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may configure bursts of synchronization signal (SS) blocks for discovery reference signal (DRS) transmission. The base station may transmit an SS block set in an SS burst according to a beam sweep pattern, which may be repeated for a subsequent SS block set. The base station may configure a number of SS block sets in each SS burst and transmit each SS block in an SS block set using a different beam. Each SS burst may be transmitted according to a different beam sweep pattern and the base station may repeat transmission of SS bursts according to a DRS repetition periodicity. A user equipment (UE) may sweep through antenna sub-arrays during reception of an SS burst to determine a suitable sub-array for communication.

    Abstract: Techniques for random access channel signaling on a shared communication medium are disclosed. A broadcast message including information associated with a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) may be transmitted and received on one or more subframes in a portion configured for downlink signaling. The broadcast message may comprise a contention type indicator, a timing advance indicator, or a combination thereof. The contention type indicator may indicate whether contention is in effect for transmission on the PRACH. The timing advance indicator may indicate whether an uplink transmission offset is in effect for transmission on the PRACH. Signaling over the PRACH may be transmitted and received on one or more subframes in a portion configured for uplink signaling.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that involve determining multiple beamformed transmission beams for transmission of an opportunistic or multi-beam discovery reference signal (DRS) over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may determine a contention exempt transmission (CET) period for the shared spectrum band and transmit the DRS using multiple transmission beams during CET period or the base station may perform a listen before talk (LBT) procedure, and transmit, based on the LBT procedure, the DRS over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may transmit an indication of the type of DRS transmission, a subframe offset, random access configurations, and/or error correcting codes to enable a user equipment to discover, connect to, and acquire timing information associated with the network.
