Abstract:
Various examples and schemes pertaining to enhancement of voice domain selection in 5th-Generation Systems (5GS) and fast return from Evolved Packet System (EPS) to 5GS are described. A processor of a user equipment (UE) receive an indication of whether a packet-switched (PS) voice service is supported in a first mobile communication system. The processor performs, based on the indication, voice domain selection (VDS) by selecting and engaging with one of a plurality of mobile communication systems comprising the first mobile communication system and at least a second mobile communication system. The processor performs the VDS before receiving signaling from one of the plurality of communication systems about availability of support for the PS voice service in that mobile communication system.
Abstract:
A method of control Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) reporting and discovery using AT commands is proposed. In communications networks, the MTU of a communication protocol of a layer is the size (in bytes or octets) of the largest protocol data unit that the layer can pass onwards. In an IP network, IP packets may be fragmented if the supported MTU size is smaller than the packet length. In accordance with one novel aspect, the packet data protocol (PDP) context of a packet data network (PDN) connection comprises MTU information. By introducing MTU information to the PDP contexts, TE can use AT commands to query MTU parameters from the network and thereby avoid fragmentation. TE can also use AT command to set MTU parameters and thereby control MTU discovery.
Abstract:
A method of supporting group communication over LTE MBMS is provided. A UE first establishes a unicast Evolved Packet Service (EPS) bearer in an LTE network for group communication. The UE belongs to a communication group having a communication group ID. The UE receives access information from the network for monitoring downlink (DL) multicast traffic of the DL group communication based on a multicast decision. The UE is then ready for monitoring a multicast Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) bearer for receiving the DL multicast traffic. In one embodiment, The UE requests to switch the DL multicast traffic from the multicast MBMS bearer to the unicast EPS bearer upon detecting that the UE is approaching an MBMS coverage boundary. In another embodiment, the UE transmits an indication of preferred target cells to the network before performing a handover and thereby maintaining multicast service continuity of the group communication.
Abstract:
Blockage detection in a wireless transmit receive unit includes performing a radio link measurement on one or more reference signals. The radio link measurement is compared to a comparing threshold and a blockage condition is indicated in response to the comparing of the radio link measurement meeting a threshold criterion on the comparing threshold.
Abstract:
AT commands are used for controlling Mobile Termination (MT) functions and GSM/UMTS network services from a Terminal Equipment (TE) through Terminal Adaptor (TA). 3GPP introduces multiple backoff timers and barring to solve network congestion problem. However, a TE does not know the timer value and the barring status. In accordance with one novel aspect, a new AT command interface that can respond timer value and barring status to the TE is proposed. It reduces wasteful retries and saves power consumption of the TE. Through the new AT command interface, the TE can query backoff timer status. Via unsolicited result code (URC), the MT can detect backoff timer status change and report updated backoff timer status to the TE.
Abstract:
Methods for enhanced UE data transmission for power consumption optimization are disclosed. A UE detects UE conditions and determines a UE traffic characteristic. The UE performs power consumption optimization based on the traffic characteristic. In one novel aspect, based on the UE condition, the UE determines that the traffic characteristic is low priority traffic or mobile originated only traffic. In one embodiment, the UE aligns prescheduled low priority data transmission with mobility management messages, or group multiple low priority prescheduled data transmission together. In another embodiment, the UE reduces NAS retry process upon detecting application triggered low priority traffic. In another embodiment, the UE turns off RF module until next data transmission for MO only traffic. In another novel aspect, the UE detects and sends UE conditions to the network. The network determines a UE traffic characteristic and performs power consumption optimization accordingly.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for a voice over LTE system to shorten the call set up time. In one novel aspect, the mobile origination (MO) UE starts the UE-initiated dedicated resource allocation before receiving any responses from the remote UE. In another embodiment, the mobile termination (MT) UE starts the UE-initiated dedicated resource allocation upon receiving the INVITE from the remote UE. In one embodiment, the UE adjusts the timeout value based on the PLMN information in its PLMN database. The timeout value can be set to be zero if early reservation is allowed. Upon timer expires, the UE starts UE-initiated dedicated resource allocation. In one novel aspect, the MO UE retrieves the codec information of a remote UE from its peer profile information database and uses a matching codec in its INVITE message. In another embodiment, the MT MO includes the SDP answer in its 180 RINGING message.

The multicast MBMS bearer is associated with a Temporary Mobile Group Identifier (TMGI), and wherein the TMGI is associated with the communication group ID. In one embodiment, the access information comprises mapping information between the TMGI and the communication group ID.
Abstract:
Methods for LTE-WLAN interworking control and management are proposed. In one novel aspect, a mobile termination (MT) can use an AT command to report radio access network (RAN) assistance parameters of the current serving cell. A terminal equipment (TE) can use the AT command to query the specific RAN assistance parameters and the threshold value provided by the network for making LTE-WLAN interworking decisions. If reporting is enabled by TE, then an unsolicited result code (URC) is sent from MT to TE whenever changes in the current RAN assistance parameters occur.
Abstract:
Methods for LTE-WLAN interworking control and management are proposed. In one novel aspect, a mobile termination (MT) can use an AT command to report the change of a RAN rule and/or a RAN condition match. A terminal equipment (TE) can use the AT command to query a list of matches and current RAN measurement values. A RAN rule match means one or more than one of RAN rules satisfy the threshold provided by the network according to TS36.304 description, or change from satisfied to unsatisfied. A RAN condition match means all RAN rules within a RAN condition are all satisfied according to TS36.604 description, or if any of the RAN condition change from satisfied to unsatisfied. If the reporting is enabled by TE, an unsolicited result code (URC) is sent from MT to TE whenever changes in the current RAN rule or RAN condition match occur.
