Abstract:
A micro-scheduling capability provides networks with the capability of dynamically managing time slots. Such time slots may be contained within a superframe that begins with a beacon transmitted by a node. One or more particular time slots are designated as micro-scheduled time allocations, the composition of which may be dynamically modified during the micro-scheduled time allocation.
Abstract:
Production of proteases in plants is set forth, whereby heterologous DNA encoding the protease is introduced into the plant and expression of the protein achieved. By such methods, expression is achieved in plants wherein the plant cell is not damaged, the protein can be recovered without contamination by other proteases, and can be expressed at levels such that commercial production of the enzyme is obtained. Expression levels can be at 0.1% of total soluble protein of the plant, or higher.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an expression cassette for expressing vaccine antigens in a plant cell. The expression cassette includes a DNA sequence which encodes for at least one vaccine antigen which is operably linked to transcriptional and translational control regions functional in the plant cell. The vaccine antigens of the invention are useful for protection of an animal against mucosal diseases such as Transmissible Gastroenteritis Virus (TGEV) and rotavirus. The invention also provides a transgenic plant and transgenic plant seed which has been stably transformed to express a vaccine antigen which is included in an expression cassette of the invention. The transformed plant and plant cells may be from monocot or dicot plants and include, for example, corn, soybeans, sunflower, canola or alfalfa. The transgenic plants and plant seeds of the invention may be used as a feed composition for animals. Alternatively, the transgenic plant and plant seeds of the invention may provide an immunogenic composition for protecting animals against mucosal diseases after oral administration.
Abstract:
After FEMA flood maps are scanned and converted to raster maps on a computer system, they are georeferenced. The georeferenced raster maps are stored on the system. Map inset polygons are surrounded by a virtual bounding box and a determination is made whether each grid rectangle intersects any bounding box. For each such intersection, the relevant inset polygon is traced to determine if it actually intersects the grid rectangle. If there is such intersection, the inset polygon is added to a list attached to the grid rectangle. At the end of the process, the list for each grid rectangle identifies each inset polygon intersected thereby. When an address of a property subject to a flood zone determination is entered into the system and geocoded, the grid rectangle containing the address is immediately called up. If only one inset polygon is on the list, it is used to make the flood determination. If more than one inset polygon is on the list, the various polygons are examined to determine which one is appropriate for making the flood determination, which is then made.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for measurement of at least one of brightness, flow velocity and temperature of radiant media are provided. A substantially collimated beam of light having a selected frequency is directed to a linear polariser. The linearly polarised output is directed to an electro-optically active birefringent crystal to separate the output into two characteristic waves and to introduce a first fixed phase delay between the characteristic waves. The birefringent crystal is selectively electro-optically modulated to introduce a second variable phase delay between the characteristic waves and the characteristic waves are combined to interfere prior to detection.
Abstract:
Selected plant lectins have been found to be larvicidal against a number of common insect pests of agricultural crops. In a preferred embodiment, plant resistance to these insects is produced by inserting into the cells of a plant a gene whose expression causes production of one or more of these lectins in larvicidal amounts.
Abstract:
A multi-polarized phased array antenna includes an element, a first feed line, a second feed line, a first phase shifter, and a second phase shifter. The element is fed with a first polarization signal at first and third angles, and a second polarization signal at second and fourth angles. One of the first polarization signal and second polarization signal is cancelled at a feed point in at least one of a first feed line and second feed line by operation of the first phase shifter, second phase shifter, first angle, second angle, third angle, and fourth angle. The first phase shifter provides a first 180° phase shift between the first and third angles, and the second phase shifter provides a second 180° phase shift between the second and fourth angles. A corresponding method of increasing isolation between polarizations in the multi-polarized phased array antenna is also provided.
Abstract:
A multi-polarized scanning phased array antenna includes a plurality of elements, a first feed line operatively coupling the plurality of elements, a second feed line operatively coupling the plurality of elements, and a phase delay operatively coupled in at least one of the first feed line and the second feed line. The phase delay is configured to cancel a polarized signal associated with the multi-polarized scanning phased array antenna. A method of increasing isolation between polarizations in a multi-polarized scanning phased array antenna includes coupling a plurality of elements operatively with a first feed line, coupling the plurality of elements operatively with a second feed line, and coupling a phase delay operatively in at least one of the first feed line and the second feed line such that a polarized signal associated with the multi-polarized scanning phased array antenna is cancelled.
Abstract:
Techniques for allocating bandwidth in a networked environment are described herein. A hub may include logic, at least partially comprising hardware logic. The logic is configured to receive data flow including packets at the hub. The logic is further configured to assign a weight to the packets based on the speed of the data flow, and allocate bandwidth of an upstream link based on the weight assigned to the packets.
Abstract:
An antenna array includes a plurality of antenna elements configured in a flare such that each of the plurality of antenna elements is uniformly spaced apart from at least one adjacent antenna element. Each of the plurality of antenna elements is coupled in a common area, and each of the plurality of antenna elements extends radially outward from the common area. A method of arranging antenna elements in an antenna array includes configuring a plurality of antenna elements in a flare such that each antenna element is uniformly spaced apart from at least one adjacent antenna element, and each of the plurality of antenna elements extends radially outward from a common area; and coupling each of the plurality of antenna elements in the common area.
