Abstract: Embodiments are provided herein for increasing low density signature space for multiplexed transmissions for a plurality of users. The embodiments include generating a virtual signature using a combination operation on a plurality of basic signatures. The generated virtual signatures are provisioned as basic resource units (BRUs) for transmissions for corresponding users. The combination operation is a row-wise or column-wise permutation for combining, in each of the virtual signatures, rows or columns of corresponding basic signatures. The rows or columns represent sequences of frequency bands at one time interval or sequences of allocated time intervals at one frequency band. Alternatively, the combination operation is intra-basic resource unit (BRU) hopping. The embodiments also include generating a plurality of BRU sets comprised of virtual signatures. Each of the BRU sets is provisioned for a corresponding user.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the present application provide for grouping of User Equipment (UEs) in clusters and/or tiers. The grouping may be based on a dynamically updated mean squared error-position/relative position map maintained at a transmission point. Additionally, grouping may be implemented in a hierarchical and cooperative manner, such that some UEs act, in a higher tier, as an Anchor UE to other UEs in lower tiers. Furthermore, the UEs may be understood to self-organize into clusters of UEs. A cluster of UEs may be represented by a single, representative UE to reduce signaling overhead between UEs in a given UE cluster and various Anchor UEs and/or transmission points. Moreover, cooperation between UEs in the same cluster may be based on sensing and on sharing, among the UEs, a relative position estimate and an position estimation MSE associated with the relative position estimate.

Abstract: A system and method of non-orthogonal multiple access (NoMA) transmission using a configurable NoMA scheme is provided. A bit level processor, a modulation block, a phase and amplitude adjuster, and a symbol to resource element mapper collectively produce a NoMA signal for output or transmission. A NoMA scheme implemented by the system and method is configurable through one or more NoMA configuration inputs that configure one or more of the bit level processor, the modulation block, the phase and amplitude adjustment block and the symbol to resource element mapper. A multiple access (MA) signature produced by the apparatus once configured for the particular NoMA scheme is selectable through one or more MA signature inputs.

Abstract: Longer pilot sequences can be supported by transmitting pilot values of a given pilot sequence over different orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbols of an uplink frame. The pilot values may be contiguous, or non-contiguous, with one another in the time domain. Consecutive pilot values in a pilot sequence may be transmitted in different OFDM symbols of the frame. For example, odd pilot values (e.g., P1, P3, P5 . . . ) in a pilot sequence may be transmitted over a different OFDM symbol than even pilot values (e.g., P2, P4, P6 . . . ) in the pilot sequence. Alternatively, a leading subset of pilot values in a pilot sequence is transmitted over a different OFDM symbol than a trailing subset of pilot values in the pilot sequence.

A station (STA) transmits an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) frame to an access point (AP). The OFDM frame comprises an OFDM symbol. The OFDM symbol comprises data tones and pilot tones. The total number of the data tones and the pilot tones in the OFDM symbol is divisible by 4. In some embodiments, the OFDM symbol may comprises 232 data tones, 8 pilot tones, 5 direct current (DC) tones, and 11 edge tones. The 232 data tones and 8 pilot tones of the OFDM symbol may be segmented to a set of 15 blocks for channel estimation between the AP and the STA.
