Abstract:
A cooling apparatus includes a shell adapted to hermetically store liquid water, a heat exchanging structure adapted to receive a substance to cool down, and a vacuum pump. The heat exchanging structure has one or more heat transfer walls, each of the heat transfer walls having a first surface in contact with the liquid water stored in the shell, and a second surface in contact with the substance to cool down. The vacuum pump is operable to create a partial vacuum on a surface of the liquid water, whereby causing a decrease in a temperature of the liquid water in the shell. In other embodiments, methods of cooling a substance are also described.
Abstract:
The invention discloses an illumination control circuit and an illumination control method. The illumination control method includes modulating an alternating current input signal and accordingly generating a dimming signal, which includes several waveform pulses each with an adjustable conduction angles; continuously sampling the waveform pulses of the dimming signal and forming an average waveform pulse from the sampled waveform pulses; extracting the average waveform pulse, which has an average conduction angle corresponding to the conduction angles of the waveform pulses; performing an integration on the sampled average waveform pulse and accordingly generating a current-controlling signal; and driving an illumination lamp according to the current-controlling signal.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for generating for at least one macroblock of a high resolution image at least one motion predictor from motion data associated to macroblock(s) of a low resolution image. The method comprises the following steps: —defining a virtual structure made up of non overlapping macroblocks, called virtual base layer macroblocks; —identifying for the high resolution macroblock corresponding virtual base layer macroblocks in the virtual image on the basis of the location of the high resolution macroblock within the high resolution image and on the basis of the ratios of low resolution and high resolution images dimensions; —deriving, for each identified virtual base layer macroblocks, motion data from motion data associated to at least one macroblock of a corresponding low resolution macroblocks pair on the basis of the field/frame mode of the corresponding low resolution macroblocks pair and on the basis of the field/frame mode of the high resolution macroblock; —resampling motion data associated to the corresponding virtual base layer macroblocks so as to generate the at least one motion predictor.

Abstract:
A method of preparing a composite optical retarder is provided. A first and a second liquid crystal coating materials are respectively disposed on opposite surfaces of a photoalignment film to respectively form a first and a second optical retarders. The composite optical retarder having the photoalignment film sandwiched by the first and the second optical retarders is thus obtained.
Abstract:
A system and method for ensuring large and frequent updates to a data warehouse. The process leverages a set of temporary staging tables to track the updates. A set of intermediate steps are performed to accomplish bulk deletions of the outdated changed records, and perform modifications to the map tables for models such as snowflake. Finally, bulk load operations load the updates and insert them into the final dimension tables. The process ensures performance comparable to insertion-only schemes with at most only slight performance degradation. Furthermore, a modified process is applied on the newfact data warehouse dimension model. The process can be readily adapted to handle star schema and other hierarchical data warehouse models.
Abstract:
Embodiments provide histogram-based methods and system to estimate the transfer function of an ADC, and subsequently to linearize a non-linear ADC transfer function. Embodiments include blind algorithms that require no a priori knowledge of the input signal distribution. Embodiments can be implemented using cumulative (i.e., cumulative distribution function (CDF)) or non-cumulative (i.e., probability density function (PDF)) histograms. According to embodiments, a non-linear transfer function can be estimated by linearly approximating successive local intervals of the transfer function. Linearly approximated successive local intervals of the transfer function can then be used to fully characterize and closely estimate the transfer function.
Abstract:
Techniques are described related to coding of long-term reference pictures for a reference picture set. In some examples, a video coder may code candidate long-term reference pictures in a parameter set. The video coder also code syntax elements that indicate which long-term reference pictures from the candidate long-term reference pictures belong in the reference picture set.
Abstract:
Techniques are described related to deriving a reference picture set. A reference picture set may identify reference pictures that can potentially be used to inter-predict a current picture and picture following the current picture in decoding order. In some examples, deriving the reference picture set may include constructing a plurality of reference picture subsets that together form the reference picture set.
