Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for positioning electrodes within a body. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus for slidably moving multiple features relative to a sheath inserted into a body and positioned relative to a reference point includes a primary actuator configured to move a primary electrode, a secondary actuator configured to move a secondary electrode, and a control mechanism. The control mechanism is configured to selectively prevent movement of at least one of the primary actuator based on a position of the secondary actuator and of the secondary actuator based on a position of the primary actuator and lock positions of the primary actuator and the secondary actuator.

Abstract: A guiding probe for identifying a location within an anatomical region of a patient. The guiding probe can optionally: a graspable portion, an insertion portion and an emitter. The insertion portion can be coupled to the graspable portion. The insertion portion can have an elongated extent and a longitudinal axis. The insertion portion can include a flexible section and a bending section. The bending section can be positioned distal of the flexible section. The emitter can be coupled to a distal end portion of the insertion portion. The emitter can be configured for use within the anatomical region to emit a signal that can be detectable extracorporeally of the patient whereby the signal enables the location within the anatomical region to be identified extracorporeally for therapy to be applied.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for positioning electrodes. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a primary electrode defining a lumen, an elongated secondary electrode slidably receivable within the lumen, and a sheath configured to slidably receive the electrodes and to convey the electrodes toward a target region. A housing is coupled with the sheath and movably mounted to motivate the sheath relative to the target region. A primary actuator is coupled with the primary electrode and slidably coupled with the housing to motivate the primary electrode relative to the sheath. A secondary actuator is coupled with the secondary electrode and movably coupled with the primary actuator to be slidable with the electrodes in concert. The secondary actuator is rotatable independently of the primary actuator to travel along a helical path to motivate the secondary electrode to move relative to the target region independently of the primary electrode.

Abstract: Surgical instruments and methods are disclosed including a tissue removal tool for treatment of endometrial tissue on a background tissue of a patient. The tissue removal tool can optionally comprise a graspable portion, a shaft and an end effector. The shaft can be coupled to the graspable portion. The shaft can have a proximal portion and a distal portion and can be configured to access an anatomic location of the endometrial tissue. The end effector can be coupled to the distal portion of the shaft. The end effector can be configured to lift the endometrial tissue relative to the background tissue to a lifted position. The end effector can be configured to cut the endometrial tissue from the background tissue with the endometrial tissue in the lifted position.

Abstract: A surgical device comprises a shaft extending between proximal and distal portions, a surgical tool located at the distal portion, a handpiece located at the proximal portion, a lumen extending through the shaft from the proximal portion to the surgical tool, a light conductor extending into the proximal portion and at least partially through the shaft, and a light emitter connected to the light conductor to emit light from the light conductor toward the surgical tool. A method for illuminating dye while performing a laparoscopic surgical procedure comprises making an incision in a patient to form a laparoscopic port, marking target tissue for removal with a dye, inserting a laparoscopic device into the port, emitting light from a light source, passing the light through the laparoscopic device to illuminate the target tissue within the patient, and removing the target tissue with a surgical tool attached to the laparoscopic device.

Abstract: A handpiece for a handheld surgical instrument having a motor and a heatsink is provided. The motor is within a motor housing and the heat sink is disposed around and thermally coupled with the motor housing. The handpiece is formed from a material having a first thermal conductivity and the heat sink has a second thermal conductivity that is greater in value than the first thermal conductivity of the material of the handpiece. The heat sink is configured to dissipate heat from the motor during operation of the motor to the handpiece.

Abstract: A method of treating a calculi mass can include using an ultrasonic probe to produce acoustic energy and fragment the mass. The method can include varying the frequency at which fragmentation occurs to treat the mass with a resonant frequency. The ultrasonic probe can have a distal tip for contact with the mass, where the tip has a morphology for concentrating stress on the mass. The ultrasonic probe can have two or more ultrasonic horns to allow for higher voltage and power levels.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for delivering laser energy to a target in an endoscopic procedure are disclosed. An exemplary method comprises providing a first laser pulse train and a different second laser pulse train emitting from a distal end of an endoscope and incident on a target. The first laser pulse train has a first laser energy level, and the second laser pulse train has a second laser energy level higher than the first laser energy level. In an example, the first laser pulse train is used to form cracks on a surface of a calculi structure, and the second laser pulse train causes fragmentation of the calculi structure after the cracks are formed.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for determining advancement of a surgical laser fiber in an endoscope and providing interlocking feedback for the surgical laser are disclosed. An exemplary method includes directing light from a distal end of an endoscope to a target, optically detecting an amount of the light reflected from the target, transmitting the optically detected amount of light through a laser fiber extending through a working channel of the endoscope, determining, based on the optically detected amount of light, a position of a distal end of the laser fiber relative to the distal end of the endoscope, and generating a control signal to the surgical laser system to adjust laser emission through the laser fiber.
