    摘要: An ultrasonic flow meter has been adapted for such measurements in the submarine environment. Connected to a collection funnel, the meter houses two piezoelectric transducers mounted at opposite ends of a cylindrical flow tube. By monitoring the perturbations of fluid flow on the propagation of sound waves inside the flow tube, the ultrasonic meter can measure both forward and reverse fluid flows in real time. Laboratory and field calibrations show that the ultrasonic meter can resolve groundwater discharges in both the forward and reverse directions on the order of 0.1 μm/s (

    摘要: A friction stir spot welding device includes a tool head configured for traveling in a first direction towards a workpiece and in a second direction away from the workpiece. A weld tool is rotatably coupled relative to the tool head and includes a free end. The weld tool travels in concert with the tool head. A clamping mechanism is supported by the tool head and substantially surrounds at least the weld tool. The clamping mechanism travels in concert with the tool head and includes a free end defining a contact surface. A portion of the clamping mechanism is movable relative to the tool head between a first position, in which the contact surface is positioned further from the tool head than the free end of the weld tool, and a second position, in which the contact surface is positioned closer to the tool head than the free end of the weld tool. Biasing means bias the clamping mechanism to the first position.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for applying a uniform polishing pressure on a wafer are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a chemical mechanical planarization polishing apparatus includes a polishing pad, a wafer holder, and a force control system. The wafer holder supports a wafer to be polished using the polishing pad. The polishing pad is arranged to move relative to the wafer holder such that an area of contact between the wafer holder and the polishing pad varies. The force control system including a controller and a plurality of actuators that apply forces to the polishing pad. The controller controls the forces as the area of contact varies to substantially maintain a first polishing pressure on the wafer arranged to be supported by the wafer holder.
