Abstract:
A piezoelectric shutter is arranged in a comb pattern and presents a core. The comb is provided with at least one tooth constituting the shutter, the bore being arranged with elevation allowing the displacement of the shutter by the piezoelectric effect. The device is remarkable in that it comprises at least one bimorph arranged on the support, capable of being raised with respect to the support by the piezoelectric effect.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of increasing the production of a protein translated from an uncapped eukaryotic messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), comprising the steps of: selecting a nucleotide sequence encoding a protein to be expressed; joining nucleotides 1-168 of the barley yellow dwarf virus RNA, PAV serotype to the 5' untranslated region of said uncapped mRNA, said nucleotides 1-168 comprising the 5' untranslated region plus first 27 nucleotides of the open reading frame of the barley yellow dwarf virus RNA; linking nucleotides 4513-5677 of the barley yellow dwarf virus RNA, PAV serotype, to the 3' untranslated region of said uncapped mRNA; and expressing the protein. Also provided is a DNA molecule which comprises: (a) a promoter region which functions in plant cells to cause the production of an RNA sequence, which is operably linked to (b) a 5' untranslated region including a 5' translation enhancing segment, said 5' translation enhancing segment comprising nucleotides 1-168 of the barley yellow dwarf virus RNA, PAV serotype, said nucleotides 1-168 encompassing the 5' untranslated region plus first 27 nucleotides of the open reading frame of the barley yellow dwarf virus RNA; (c) a coding sequence, wherein said coding sequence is heterologous to said 5' untranslated region, which is operably linked to (d) a 3' untranslated region that functions in plant cells to cause the termination of transcription, said 3' untranslated region comprising nucleotides 4513-5677 of the barley yellow dwarf virus RNA.
Abstract:
A simulated bone of improved hardness and color is provided having as a structural matrix a white, unpuffed farinaceous mixture, in which the fat content of the matrix is controlled to below about 7% by weight, and the moisture content to between about 5 and 12% by weight thereby imparting a shear value to the matrix which is greater than 250 pounds.
Abstract:
One embodiment of an independent engine throttle override comprised of an override switch in conjunction with of an override module which houses a fixed resistor and switching relay to provide the capability to return a runaway automotive engine to idle speed without impacting operability of other vehicle control systems.
Abstract:
A device (15) for the application of pesticides to animals as they feed and that accommodates wildlife of all sizes, poses no threat of harm to the animals, and maximizes the per capita application of pesticide. Whole kernel corn (or other feed) placed in a feed bin (30) is dispensed into a trough/receptacle (20) through an opening at the bottom of the bin. The trough/receptacle (20) is surrounded by pesticide applicators (40) such that as an animal feeds, some part of its head, neck and/or ears will contact one or more of the applicators. The applicators (40) are flexible and rotatable, so that animals attracted to the apparatus to feed are subjected to the application of a pesticide upon their head, neck, ears, and/or, where applicable, antlers or horns, the flexible and rotatable applicators (40) maximizing pesticide application with minimal stress to both the animal and device. The device employs a modular molded polyethylene design that is durable, economical, mass-producible, lightweight, and can be shipped for user-assembly, thereby reducing shipping and manufacturing costs.
