Abstract: The present invention provides: a highly practical and safe oil-based ink composition for a writing board, said composition being capable of imparting high mark-erasability and having excellent resistance to drying up; and a marking pen incorporating the same. Specifically, the present invention provides: an oil-based ink composition for a writing board, said composition containing a pigment, an organic solvent, a resin, and at least one compound selected from compounds represented by general formula (1) or (2); and a marking pen obtained by incorporating the oil-based ink composition for a writing board. (In the formulae, R1-R4 each represent a C6-18 alkyl group or a C2-18 and O2-10 alkoxypolyglycol group.)

Abstract: A fabric sleeve in the form of a strip of material having compatible attachment members along its lateral edges, is applied to a cable by a device located at a site where the cable can be introduced into a conduit. The device includes a beam carried by a post. The beam carries a plurality of formers which receive the sleeve and the cable from rolls and which progressively fold the sleeve around the cable. The beam also carries an attachment device which receives the sleeve and cable from the formers and which connects the attachment members of the sleeve to confine the cable therein. The attachment device can be opened so that the sleeved cable can be removed. The device is operated at the site until the sleeved cable reaches a downstream installation site and the process is repeated at that downstream site.

Abstract: A method for charging batteries that have at least one metal electrode or at least one metal-based compound electrode includes applying a DC signal to the batteries and applying an AC signal to the batteries. The DC signal and AC signal may be combined as a composite signal, which is applied to the batteries, or may be applied to the batteries as separate, independent signals, during a charging cycle. As such, the DC signal serves to charge the batteries, while the AC signal operates to suppress, avoids or reverse the growth of dendrites in the batteries. As a result, the operating life of the batteries is extended, and the electrical storage capacity of the batteries is preserved.

Abstract: A polymer-dispersed blue-phase (PDBP) liquid crystal film is formed from a polymer-based latex and blue-phase liquid crystals that are combined using an emulsification process or a polymerization-induced phase separation process. The resultant PDBP liquid crystal film includes droplets formed by the polymer-based latex that encapsulate the blue-phase liquid crystals therein, so as to allow the blue-phase liquid crystals to have a blue phase at room temperature. As such, the PDBP liquid crystal film is conducive for use in manufacturing processes, such as LCD (liquid crystal display) manufacturing processes, while providing desirable optical features, such as field-induced birefringence at low switching voltages.

Abstract: A frequency controlled electro-optical device includes a substrate having transparent conductive control sections patterned thereon to selectively control the optical state of an electro-optical layer. Each of the control sections are partially electrically isolated from each other by crack lines, which allows for electrical communication between adjacent/proximate control sections to occur. As such, an electrical control signal applied directly to one control section forms an electric field in that control section, and also induces an electrical field in adjacent control sections that are not in direct receipt of the control signal. Therefore, the number of electrical connections required for coupling to a driving circuit to operate the device is minimized, thereby allowing the device to be fabricated with reduced complexity and cost.

Abstract: An electric brake power conversion and distribution system for use in aircraft is provided. An array of DC-DC converters is interposed between a DC power source and a plurality of aircraft electric brake actuators. Each of the DC-DC converters has a characteristic output voltage. The DC-DC converters are interconnected in an additive series of connections to provide an output voltage to the plurality of aircraft electric brake actuators that comprises the sum of the characteristic voltages of the DC-DC converters that are enabled at a particular point in time. A controller manipulates an array of switches interconnected with the array of DC-DC converts, such that the controller can selectively enable or inhibit selected ones of the DC-DC converters, as desired. Accordingly different voltages can be made available for the electric brake actuators depending upon aircraft activity, such as landing, taxiing, parking, or in flight. The invention reduces the size, weight, cost, and associated heat buildup of prior power conversion and distribution systems.
