Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus operates in a first power mode with a first DL bandwidth in association with one of a radio resource control (RRC) idle state or an RRC connected state with a base station. The apparatus transitions to a second power mode with a second DL bandwidth less than the first DL bandwidth. Additionally, the apparatus monitors a set of symbols and a set of subcarriers of the second DL bandwidth for an activity indicator from the base station. The apparatus transitions from the second power mode to the first power mode upon receiving the activity indicator from the base station. In an aspect, control information associated with a modulation scheme may be within the set of symbols and the set of subcarriers. The control information may correspond to a particular constellation point.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for determining presence and/or bandwidth of reference signals (RS) in systems that utilize narrowband regions of wider system bandwidth for wireless communications, such as enhanced machine type communication(s) (eMTC) systems and/or narrowband Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) systems. Aspects provide a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE) operating in a narrowband region of a wider system bandwidth. The method generally includes determining at least one of: a presence of one or more RS in a subframe or a bandwidth of the one or more RS, wherein the bandwidth of the one or more RS is greater than or equal to a bandwidth of the narrowband region; and monitoring for the one or more RS in the subframe based on the determination.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for user equipment initiated handover. Certain aspects include a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE) including determining a first signal metric between the UE and a first base station, while the UE has a connection established with the first base station. The method further includes determining a second signal metric between the UE and a second base station, while the UE does not have a connection established with the second base station. The method further includes determining that the second signal metric is stronger than the first signal metric. The method further includes declaring a radio link failure with the first base station based on determining that the second signal metric is stronger than the first signal metric. The method further includes establishing a connection with the second base station.

Abstract: Half-duplex (HD) operations enable low cost implementations of LTE terminals. Traditionally, HD operations may be linked to a particular frequency band which may not allow a mix of full-duplex (FD) and HD terminals in the same frequency band. Therefore, certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for enabling coexistence, in a given frequency band, of HD and FD terminals, by introducing frequency bands designated for HD operation and overlapping existing frequency bands designated for FD operation.

Abstract: In order to address the needs of narrow band communication, eNB-based processing and/or UE-based processing is provided to achieve robust detection of cell ID and SFN timing location using NB-SSS. A base station constructs a NB-SSS signal using a root index of a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence, a scrambling code, a cyclic shift or phase ramping sequence, and an interleaving sequence, wherein a combination of the ZC root index, the scrambling code index, the cyclic shift or phase ramping sequence index, and the interleaving sequence index signals information for a cell identifier (e.g., PCID) and frame timing. The ZC sequence used may be a long ZC sequence constructed to span a total number of tones allocated to an SSS sequence or may be a concatenation of multiple ZC sequences, wherein the concatenated ZC sequences span a total number of tones allocated to an SSS sequence.

Abstract: The present disclosure proposes indicating to the UE a set of CSI reference subframes that may be used in performing a CSI measurement. The set of CSI reference subframes may be measured over multiple frequencies when frequency hopping occurs. In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may receive information associated with a number of CSI reference subframes to use in performing CSI measurements in a narrowband communication. In addition, the apparatus may monitor subframes on at least two frequency channels including a PDCCH. Further, the apparatus may perform a CSI measurement across the at least two frequency channels based on the information associated with the number of CSI reference subframes.

Abstract: NB wireless communication involves numerous challenges. A limited frequency dimension may need to be shared by multiple users. At times, large data transmissions, including multiple TBs of data may be transmitted using NB communication, and it may be important that each TB be successfully received by the users. The apparatus may transmit data comprising a plurality of TBs in a narrow band communications system, including repeating a transmission of the plurality of TBs, using any of a number of repetition patterns. The apparatus may use error correction encoding across multiple TBs. The transmission may be a single cell transmission or a multi-cell transmission.
