    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive data transmissions on primary cell and transmit feedback for the data transmissions on a secondary cell, where carriers on the secondary cell have a subcarrier spacing that is greater than the subcarrier spacing of carriers on the primary cell. The UE may perform a self-contained transmission by receiving data and transmitting feedback within a single transmission opportunity. The base station may schedule the UE for only downlink transmissions in the primary cell, removing uplink transmission resources and guard periods from slots of primary cell carriers. The UE may transmit other information on the high band cell as well, such as a channel quality indicator or scheduling requests. The base station may apply rate adjustments for downlink transmission in the next slot of a primary cell carrier.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying joint transmissions in unlicensed spectrum are described, including receiving, at a user equipment (UE), a frame from one or more network entities over a contention-based medium, wherein the frame includes a preamble. The method and apparatus further include determining whether the frame corresponds to a unicast transmission or a joint transmission based on the preamble. In another aspect, a method and apparatus include determining, at a network entity, whether a frame corresponds to a unicast transmission or a joint transmission. The method and apparatus include transmitting the frame with a preamble to a UE over a contention-based medium, the preamble being based on determining whether the frame corresponds to the unicast transmission or the joint transmission. For example, the type of scrambling applied to the preamble may be based on whether the frame corresponds to unicast transmission or joint transmission.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that asynchronous carrier aggregation, including between high frequency band and lower frequency band transmissions. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to monitor transmissions in a first frequency band and a second frequency band. The UE may measure a timing difference between transmissions in the first frequency band and one or more of the transmissions in the second frequency band, and transmit an indication of the timing difference to a base station. The base station may use the timing difference to determine whether the UE is to use asynchronous carrier aggregation. If the base station determines that the UE is to use asynchronous carrier aggregation, the base station may configure the UE to observe at least a minimum amount of delay when conducting uplink signaling via one of the frequency bands.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for partitioning two or more dimensions of an uplink transmission, where different partitions in each partitioned dimension can be used to provide different feedback information. A UE may measure one or more downlink transmissions from a base station (e.g., beam measurements in a beam sweep procedure), and select a partition of one of the partitioned dimensions to indicate feedback related to the measured downlink transmissions. The feedback may indicate, for example, a particular beam that may be used for an active beam pair, beam refinement information, or other feedback. The partitioned dimensions may include one or more of time resource, a frequency resource dimension, a root sequence dimension, a cyclic shift dimension, a time-frequency dimension, or any combination thereof.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may determine whether a source carrier for an uplink grant is in licensed or unlicensed spectrum and then select a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for accessing a shared spectrum channel. For example, the device may select one range parameter (e.g., q value) for a backoff procedure of a clear channel assessment (CCA) if the source carrier is in unlicensed spectrum, and a different (e.g., larger) range parameter if the source carrier is in licensed spectrum. In some cases, the device may operate in a stand-alone operating mode and the source carrier may be identified based on the mode. In some cases, the device may receive signaling that indicates a carrier configuration, and may select the LBT procedure based on whether a carrier configured on unlicensed spectrum is self-scheduled or cross-carrier scheduled.
