摘要: An embodiment of the method of the invention is a method of automating information flow in a laboratory performing tissue staining comprising positioning a networked label printer adjacent to a cutting station, the printer configured to access patient data directly or indirectly from the hospital LIS, the printer being configured with a data element scanner in electronic communication with said printer; inputting data from a tissue cassette-associated data element at said printer, whereby inputting data comprises reading the data from the cassette-associated data element and uploading the cassette data to the LIS; identifying the corresponding test protocol identifier and then downloading the test protocol data to the printer; printing information on labels corresponding to each test specified in the LIS for the patient; attaching a single label to each slide; and cutting a tissue section for each labeled slide and mounting the section on the slide.

摘要: A probe includes a solid elongate body disposed along a long axis of the probe and terminating in a probe tip, and a solid planar beveled surface at or adjacent an end of the probe tip formed at a non-zero beveled angle relative to a normal of the long axis of the probe, The solid planar beveled surface is configured to impart Van der Waal attractive force to a sample surface positioned immediately adjacent the solid beveled surface of the probe so that the sample can be detached from and lifted from the bulk material and transported to a grid for investigation. Various embodiments of the beveled surface are described, including an elliptical probe tip surface beveled between 10 and 45 degrees to the normal to the probe long axis and planar surfaces formed in the sides of the probe body that are parallel to the probe long axis.

摘要: A medical cutting device for creating thin slices, has a device body, a cover, a working section which rigidly adjoins a connecting section, and a recess on the top side, which is enclosed by a delimiting ridge. The cover comprises a counterpart to the connecting section adjoined by a pressure section which is positioned opposite the recess at a distance da, and therefore a guide slot extending between the working section and the pressure section remains free for a cutting blade. The distance of the guide slot to the bottom surface of the recess, which is defined by the distance da, defines the thickness, which can be achieved, of a slice to be created. The cutting blade is disposed within the guide slot and is rigidly connected to a rotatable shaft extending perpendicularly to the plane of the guide slot and extends through a recess in the cover.

摘要: A filtration assembly for separating solids from liquids contained in a sample, and a method for preparing such a sample are disclosed herein. According to one embodiment, the filtration assembly includes an inner element (100) with proximal and distal ends (102,103) and a sample (200) disposed therein. A reinforcing sleeve (300) is disposed around the inner element (100) to form a sample receiver (250) with proximal and distal ends (252,253). A filter (400) is disposed at the open proximal end of the sample receiver (252) and a filtrate receiver (500) is placed over the filter (400) and threadedly engaged with the sample receiver (250) to clamp the filter (400) therebetween. Then, the receivers (250,500) are inverted and a pressure is applied to the sample (200) to force a liquid component (200a) through the filter (400) into the filtrate receiver (500), while solids (200b) are retained in the sample receiver (250).

摘要: Methods, apparatuses and systems for facilitating automated or semi-automated collection of tissue samples cut by a microtome. In one example, a collection apparatus may be moved back and forth between respective positions at which the collection apparatus is operatively coupled to a microtome so as to collect cut tissue samples, or routine access to the microtome is provided. Relatively easy movement and positioning of the collection apparatus is facilitated, while at the same time ensuring structural stability and appropriate alignment and/or isolation between the collection apparatus and the microtome. A fluid reservoir receives samples cut by the microtome, and the collection apparatus may collect samples via a conveyor-like substrate disposed near/in the reservoir. A linear movement of the substrate may be controlled based on a cutting rate of the microtome, and the fluid level in the reservoir may be automatically maintained to facilitate effective sample collection.
