摘要： A magnifier for facilitating visual perception of scale markings on a scale, such as an engineer's scale, includes a magnifying element and a mounting attachment for supporting the magnifying element above the scale. The mounting attachment also includes a pivot connection for permitting selective tilting of the magnifying element about a pivot axis extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the scale. The mounting attachment further permits manual shifting of the magnifier in directions generally paralleling the longitudinal axis of the scale.

摘要： A gauge for use in a wheel balancing machine for ascertaining the location of the plane of the inner edge of the wheel rim. The gauge includes a flat resiliently flexible plate which has an edge that is graduated in units of distance. Extending from the plate remote from the edge is a support bar and there is means for mounting the support bar for slidable movement along its longitudinal axis to permit positioning of the graduated edge adjacent to the inner edge of the wheel rim so that the position of the rim can be ascertained by comparing its location with that of the graduations.

摘要： An instrument and method is provided for accurately determining the geographic coordinates of a specific location on a map. The instrument comprises a flat transparent plastic sheet having a variable length scale printed thereon which is defined by a plurality of straight lines radiating from a common point. Indicia are also printed on the sheet for designating the radiating lines as graduations of a scale comprising either 2.5 or 5 minutes, and with each minute being further broken down into sixty seconds. To determine a coordinate, the location in question on the map is projected to the border along a direction parallel to one set of the geographic coordinates. The transparent sheet is then placed over the map, and the scale is aligned with respect to the border such that the outermost of the radiating lines directly overlie the tick marks on the map between which the projected location falls. The scale is then read above the point at which the projected location intersects the border of the map. The procedure is repeated to determine the other coordinate.

摘要： The present measuring tool facilitates the work of a carpenter, especially panelling work by a direct measuring and reading of the position of cut-outs that are to be made in any type of panel, for example to accommodate utility outlets and other openings. For this purpose a runner or slider is movable along a T-square. A readout window is provided in one face of the runner to directly read the runner position from the scale marking on the T-square. The runner or slider simultaneously has a hole therethrough which forms a template, for example, for standard electrical outlet boxes. Thus, the carpenter may directly work on the panel a hole to be cut into the panel without even memorizing the measurements. A set screw or the like may be used to lock the runner on the leg of the T-square once the runner or slider has been properly positioned on the T-square leg whereby the locked position of the runner acts as a memory for the reading.

摘要： A collapsible and adjustable gage apparatus comprising a plurality of wear link members adapted to engage the inner walls of pipe, which members are pivotally attached through articulated mechanical arms to a rotatably adjustable collar and to a slidable, releasable collar. The gage apparatus may be adapted to different diameters of pipe by varying the distance between the adjustable collar and the releasable collar. The gage apparatus may be collapsed for easier withdrawal from a pipe by actuating the catch mechanism which holds the releasable collar in a fixed position, permitting the releasable collar to slide away from the adjustable collar, thereby collapsing the wear link members and articulated arms so as to reduce the effective diameter of the apparatus to its smallest possible size.

摘要： An improved case for a self-extending rule having a resilient blade which assumes a straight position when in a relaxed state and has a pair of case sections formed with flat top, bottom, and back walls, and arcuate side walls enclosing a cylindrical interior chamber and with a front wall having a generally arcuate opening in a lower sector thereof defined by the rim of the adjacent side wall and the edge of a reentrant web extending from the opposite side wall. The underside of the web has a center post extending into the chamber to mount a cylindrical cup for nesting the convolutions of the blade when inserted endwise through said arcuate opening and underneath the edge of the web. A brake is mounted for rectilinear movement in a radial opening in the top wall of the case adjacent the front side of the cup and is biased into engagement with a converging open rim of the cup. The back of the case is spaced from the bottom of the cup and forms an annular chamber in which pivotal weights are mounted to rotate with the cup and engage the annular wall of the chamber for limiting the speed of rotation of the cup.

摘要： An apparatus for making distance measurements with a high degree of accuracy and a means for interpreting and displaying the results on a digital readout. A binary encoded scale which exhibits a one to one correspondence with discrete locations on said scale and the coded information at those locations is used in making the measurements. The scale is made using photographic reducing techniques. An optical detection system, comprising a magnifying lens, a plurality of light conducting fibers and phototransistors is used to read digital information from the binary encoded scale. An electronic circuit accepts digital code from the optical detection system, decodes it and displays the resulting information on a digital readout.

摘要： A packaging machine for producing plastic bags of various predetermined lengths. The machine includes a roll of tubular polyethylene. A plurality of push-buttons are provided, with each push-button producing a polyethylene bag of predetermined length from the roll. The machine includes means for feeding a predetermined length of the tubular film, heat sealing means for sealing a predetermined length of the tubular film in order to seal the bottom thereof and severing means for severing the sealed length from the remainder of the roll of film. The severed length then serves as a bag for packaging a purchased commodity. The bag can then be sealed, provided with handle openings or used solely in its dispensed condition for packaging the commodity.
