Abstract: A press forming apparatus that produces a character line in a design surface of an outer panel by press forming includes an upper die and a lower die. The upper die has a die surface that is configured to form a design surface of an outer panel. The lower die has a die surface corresponding to the die surface of the upper die. The die surface of the lower die has, in a formation area of the character line, a curved convex portion that protrudes beyond an offset line of the die surface of the upper die and curved concave portions continuous with the curved convex portion. Each of the curved concave portions is on a corresponding one of both sides of the convex portion and is recessed beyond the offset line.

Abstract: A restraining material includes a frictional surface configured to press against an object to restrain the object and exert a frictional force thereon. The frictional surface is a pattern surface of a base material of the restraining member that will directly contact with the object. The pattern surface includes island-shaped parts separated by a depression and periodically arranged. The depression has a depth of 15 to 50 μm with respect to the frictional surface. A periodic arrangement direction of the island-shaped parts includes a direction defined by that: a pattern index determined by dividing an arrangement pitch of the island-shaped parts in a periodic arrangement direction by the maximum diameter of each island-shaped part in the periodic arrangement direction falls within a range of 1.0 to 100, and the maximum diameter of each island-shaped part in the periodic arrangement direction falls within in a range of 0.1 to 2 mm.

Abstract: A pneumatic chamber 20 is configured to include a first pneumatic chamber 21 pressurizing a first piston 11 and a second pneumatic chamber 22 pressurizing a second piston 12. The first pneumatic chamber 21 and the second pneumatic chamber 22 communicate with each other through a communication hole 87 formed via the inside of a retaining bolt 17. The second pneumatic chamber 22 is formed in a hydraulic pressure generating unit 55 moving in a thrust direction in a cylinder 2 and is separable from the first pneumatic chamber 21. In addition, the communication hole 87 is also separated into a communication hole 87a and a communication hole 87b with the corresponding separation, a rod portion 50 of the first piston 11 is also separated into a rod portion 50a and a rod portion 50b, and the communication hole 87b and the rod portion 50b are formed to be movable along with the hydraulic pressure generating unit 55 in the thrust direction.

Abstract: A method for painting a complex or compound curved three-dimensional surface of a portion of an article. The method comprises providing a paint film; providing sheet metal having opposite major surfaces; laminating the paint film onto a major surface of the sheet metal to form a painted sheet metal laminate comprising a first portion and a second portion; permanently deforming the first portion of the painted sheet metal laminate into a formed portion of the article having a complex or compound curved three-dimensional shape; applying an initial force for securing the second portion of the painted sheet metal laminate during an initial stage of said permanently deforming step; and applying a later force for securing the second portion of the painted sheet metal laminate during a later stage of said permanently deforming step. The later applied force is greater than the initially applied force.

Abstract: A first step of setting a steel material heated to a temperature not lower than an A1 transformation point on a forming table and a second step of punching a ring-form member from the steel material and thereafter forming and quenching the ring-form member on the forming table are included. A press die is constructed to be dividable into an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder. In the second step, the ring-form member is punched from a coil material by pressing a tip end portion of the inner cylinder and a tip end portion of the outer cylinder against the coil material. The punched ring-form member is formed and quenched by further pressing a tip end of the inner cylinder against the ring-form member while the ring-form member is held between the outer cylinder and a forming die.
